Couple Thoughts On Yesterday

A couple means 2 😉.

But good points! I agree especially with your point about Sarr, no coincidence Biss was amazing again with him next to him. For me, this was the key to winning - our CM was just in control all game.

On the Son point, it’s interesting you say hes so much better on the left as at the start of the season he was on the left, was poor, then moved to the middle and played well and we then got people saying “its clear hes so much better through the middle”. I think ultimately he is an incredible player and captain, flexible across the front, but will have some quiet games regardless.

Even though it was 4 goals, we are still far too wasteful and should have had at least 6, maybe even 7/8. It didn’t cost us today because we created so many chances, but against west ham and villa it did (because we created slightly less chances). Villa we should have scored about 4 and scored 1. Today we shoulda scored about 7 and scored 4. Still need to improve here.

Lastly, Kulu was good in CAM BUT lo celso was good there recently too so I’m not too fussed and we have enough depth in this position even without Madders. Personally, I’d have liked to see Donley come on there for the last 15/20

Well written. Agree with it all

I think a bit of credit also has to go to the much maligned Davies. He has stood in for VDV and has actually been pretty good. Some of his passing yesterday was also very good and his early sliding interception prevented a certain goal.

You are right about PEH/Skipp. Plodders in comparison to the rest and no coincidence that PEH gave the ball away to set up their goal. Very limited with the ball at his feet.

An upgrade to PEH, added to the other midfielders you've listed, would be a very strong unit, for a season with Europe where we will need to rotate a bit more regularly.

Haha.. Yeah.. apols, too many points... I got carried away.

Re your point on GLC.... That was Kulu's 1st game for Spurs as a 10 and he was miles better than anything I've seen from GLC. I like him as a player (defo talented) but feels like a passenger too often. Kulu is perfect for the PL. He's a f*cking unit who can actually play (the guy is a baller !!!). By playing him centrally you take away his biggest weakness that is his over reliance to always cut inside.

On your other point about being wasteful.... We have to be realistic.... Yes, the WH 2nd half was poor but we aint gonna score 7 every game but we are gonna create a ton of chances. I bet Ange was secretly delighted with us yesterday. We were stunning going forward..... We would have ripped better teams than Newcastle yesterday..... as we have all said, it's a process and its gonna take time but the signs moving forward from yesterday were incredibly positive!!!!

Yeah.. spot on Re Davies.. played very well. Would rather have him start than Dier until VDV is back. I thought everyone played really well....... Romero pi55ed me off but that was the only negative.... Just stupid and unnecessary. He's such a great defender.

I get a feeling that Romero (and Vicario) wanted to leave something on Wilson, as that attention seeking gobsheite has been taking the pee out of Richarlison, with Antionio, on a podcast.

Its laughable that Wilson accuses Vicario of lack of respect when he had been laughing at Richarlison's scoring record in public !

No excuse for Romero, but i kinda like that sort of fight and revenge mindset. It's quite old skool! He just needs to be more subtle.

Other players not mentioned who deserve recognition are Davies and Richarlison. We are quick to judge them and point fingers at them when they make mistakes but very reluctant to recognise their contribution when they have helped the side to the victory.

Kulu in the 10 role is much more effective than GLC, although he scored a couple of goals created very little otherwise and Sarr is a massive upgrade on Holjberg who is my favourite player at Spurs atm, covers every blade of grass with such energy, athleticism and poise, going to be a major player for us going forward.
Both fulbacks were massive too, can't believe how mature Udogie is for his age

posted on 11/12/23

We are lucky that the VAR fellas don't like correcting their mates on the pitch because that was a nailed on sending off and we are very fortunate that Romero will be available for selection in the next few games.

I'm not sure that when the red mist descends he can help himself and it makes the case for getting another decent CB all the more urgent.

Other than that it's great to get back to winning ways and hopefully Richarlison can kick on from here. Although I shouldn't be I'm a bit irritated that we let them score but I'll get over it.

Great result and performance yesterday. I think we have to take into account Newcastle did look woefully knackered which helped us. That said.

Sarr does look like he could become an awesome player for us and hope he continues like he is.

Kulu defo better in the middle. I think he's strong and likes a physical battle too. He's wasted out wide and very predictable wanting to come in on the his left every time.

Son - I do prefer him out wide but he can do the front man role if required to. I did like the fact yesterday he was willing get to the byline and cross. Something we have not seen from him in a while. For goodness knows how long he got near the box and cut in on his right to try an work shooting opportunity. Love the fact he was back to trying to be a winger again. I hope that continues if he stays playing out wide. I wonder if that was a Ange instruction yesterday... if so great shout Ange.

Applause to Davies who was solid. I have been a big critic of his so nice for him to stick it up me . Hope he continues in this vain...... we need him too.

Conclusion is Ange's tactics work but only if we take our chances. If we don't then we are more than likely in trouble. I guess we (me too) may have to live with this with the knowledge our injured players will be back at somepoint which helps greatly and maybe, just maybe old baldy will get his cheque book out in Jan and the summer.

oh and Ange needs to have a serious word with Romero.

I still feel that we struggle vs the parked bus. NUFC were more open yesterday and we were able to isolate Son vs Trippier plenty.

I think they may have expected Son central & Richy out wide but teams like West Ham and Sheff Utd really do properly park the bus and double team vs our wide players.

For me one of the issues I had with the WHU was that vs that sort of side, we need to move the ball quicker. We were slower and less direct and within a few seconds of us gaining the ball WHU were back parked on the edge of their area. Whether Son or Johnson or Richy, unless we get them good ball quickly against these more negative teams we will struggle a bit more.

The only player who has subdued Romero so far is Vdv

We need back him to tame that hot headed CB!

Yesterday had nothing to do with defending..... we all know they make a great partnership. This is about being smart, being a leader (He's a vice captain FFS). A straight red (which he deserved) would have been utterly stupid in a game we were cruising when we have CB injury issues. Going back to Davies and Dier for 3 straight games could possibly cost us another 9 points.... that could make a huge difference come the end of the season

Hearing Udogie has signed a new LT deal.... Good news !!!

posted on 11/12/23

Need to give a special mention to Davies . Defended well and played a few crisp , incisive passes between the lines Yesterday. Thought he had a good game.

posted on 11/12/23

Son's got 9 goals in 12 starts down the middle, think it's a bit kneejeek to say he's so much more effective out wide. he's just an excellent versatile player. People were crying out for him to move central after the first 3 games, saying he wasn't good enough out wide

posted on 11/12/23

Still think Son is best centrally and ideally Spurs need a good new winger to play on the left so Son can move back up front. Son did well yesterday but that was against a knackered Trippier, and Son was poor at LW this season before he was moved up top.

Kulusevski is definitely better as a 10. Quality yesterday.

Sarr looks class. Spurs have lots of depth in attacking midfield (Maddison, Kulusevski, Lo Celso) and box-to-box (Sarr, Bentancur) but arguably no cover of sufficient quality to reproduce Bissouma's role when he's out. I think a good, press-resistant #6 is a priority in January.

LW, DM and CB in Jan please

The trouble with Son is he is our best man out wide and our best man up front too. Richarlison may have got 2 goals yesterday but it still doesn't convince me he is any sort of answer, only that he's a decent enough squad player that will do a job for you in certain games. The answer I believe is yet to be signed. A good number 9 and then Son and Kulu/Johnson on the wings.

Hopefully Richarlison has turned a corner and we will now see a much better player and performances from him.

.... and if we are still not convinced his little upturn in form maybe a blessing with rumors the Saudi clubs maybe in for him in Jan.

I hope he has but we've been here before with him. He's followed up spells of good form with disappointing performances, like after he made the difference against Sheff United. Mind you as far as our options and what they can contribute you'd have him ahead of Gil and probably Johnson if you had to pick one.

that is the hope. He's never been prolific but if we keep putting it on a plate for him he really should fill his boots.

agreed,,,,,I thought he was good yesterday.... pressed from the front, held it up well and seemed really up for it. I think he'll benefit from having Son and Johnson out wide. Both quick and tend to get the ball in early which gives him something to attack. I think he still has the chance to have a good season.... Im not convinced Jan is the window to spend big on a striker that fits Ange's system who is actually better than him.... Hope he stays fit. If you can't score in this team, playing for this manager you might as well give up

very true.

We certainly have flexible options up front at the moment, with Son at LW or FWD, Johnson LW or RW, Deki RW or AM, Richy LW or FWD.

It's good options and the return of Richy does add a bit more aerial/physical threat. Without him defending teams just need to force us wide and pack the middle, like WHU did.
