I’m too young, but:
Roy Keane.
When he was in the team I was confident we could beat anyone.
Especially when backed up with Stam and Schmeichel.
‘52 great stuff.
So, ‘52, do you think he would’ve been England Captain instead of Bobby Moore? Would the iconic picture be Hurst raising Big Dunc on his shoulders?
I don't know Stringer, Moore was a good player, and perfect captain. I think Duncan would have been in Nobby Stiles place.
Well written piece this 52. Your best one yet about the Munich victims.
Ive heard many other older United fans who saw him play live say similar things about Edwards. All about the feeling that he projected that he was clearly a superior player than his peers and that without him in the team winning games would be harder.
In my time watching United I have only ever experienced that aura of superiority from just 2 United players. Martin Buchan and Bryan Robson.

I remember my Dad always spoke highly of Charlton and Peters more than any English player in that World Cup team.
He defo had a huge respect for Bobby Moore, but it was always them two.
And going back to Big Dunc, I have a picture hanging on my wall of the ‘58 team, along with the ‘85 team, ‘93 team and ‘99.
And I still have my first ever record, a 7 inch vinyl of Glory Glory Man Utd.

A true fan
My grandad and my Grandma didn’t open their curtains on Munich day, when I was very young I remember my mum telling me not to make too much noise as it was Munich day.
When we won the European cup in 99 iBusby said the young fans wouldn’t understand but I did.
I was there at the Camp Neu with my dad, he took me everywhere to watch United and this Friday is the first anniversary of his passing last year.
Well done 52 for remembering the true wearers of our badge, we can all disagree about managers and players but the true love is our memories in support of this amazing football club
Better than Law Charlton n Best according to the few people I have known in my life who saw all four play.
To think Real Madrid won those early 5 European Cups when we had an incredible team cruelly taken away from us with arguably the greatest player on the planet in Duncan Edwards.
My friend's dad was a United supporter. He attended the first game after the Munich crash, and my friend inherited the program he bought then. The program includes an appeal for prayers for Duncan Edwards' recovery. Overwhelmingly sad to read. My mate - who is a blue - gave the program to his nephew who is a United supporter. Pretyy generous I thought and an example of why I love Manchester.

Di Stefano, Kopa, Gento, Rial, Santamaria...and later on Puskas
That Madrid team was the best of the period, including Man Utd with Edwards

…..
We will never know, will we, as that team died at Munich.
Bernabéu had huge respect for Busby and United, and Madrid did more than any other side to try to lend you guys a hand after the disaster.
There's a book about it, written by a Manc. You can get the e-book for a couple of quid.
