Does our final league position this season actually matter ?

Do we actually need to go out on a limb and randomly buy players who may not be the best fit to improve the squad?

No, not for me. We have a huge talented squad, but the 1st team just isn't quite good enough. However I don't trust that Boehly won't just splash lots of money on gambles, rather than proper 1st team Premier league ready players. The volume of player changes can't keep happening otherwise we'll never have a proper cohesive team. And I very much doubt we can spend lots of money on one player who will truly improve us, given we'll have a build up of amortising costs running through the accounts. I'd rather stick with what we have.
Our squadis crying out for a striker, but a proven one. No more punts, no youngster with potential, a striker. It doesn't have to be a top class player, although that would be nice. But you have to ask, would an average striker like Che Adams have scored more than Jackson? IMO yes. Or an older striker like Danny Ings, he couldn't have been any worse. What I am saying is that almpost any real number 9 would be better than what we have now. It's a shame Lukaku fell out with Tuchel and lost form as I really think he could have done well in this team.

Unfortunately, I doubt we have the financial ability to sign top players at the moment, other than selling out academy players which is such a shame we find ourselves in this position.
Incidentally Che Adams has scored fewer championship goals in more appearances than Jackson has in the PL

My point isn't that I want Ings or Adams, just that I think we could have ssaved money and bought players fit for purpose. Jackson is not a number 9. I agree, if we can somehow get a top player, I'd love it. But who is available? Can we afford him? And will he perform? Jackson was a punt, I can see why they thought he was worth the gamble, but he just isn't at Premier League level.
