Think we already have a decent 10 in Rutter.

^^^

He's an inverted winger.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Summerville and James are wingers and Rutter can play 10 or on the wing. Doubt wed be able to get anyone on Pablos level. Who out there would be an improvement on Rutter that we'd be able to get in January?

Football Manager should be banned.

That is all am saying 🤦

Its all good wnd well beaten the team near the bottom of the form table, we have to ensure we start winning / stop losing the tricky away ties midweek. Peterborough next and we have to avoid a slip up there. Rutter has to stay at 10, Piroe or Bamford up top. Go and get Hume or Mumba as a left back, possibly go and get the ex Benfica CF from Fulham (Vinicius) as he's being linked away due to lack of game time.

Never played Football Manager.

But I'm guessing you have LIW?
You seem to reference it quite a lot.

Your bet's gone t 1 ts up with half a season left.

Think Piroe was a panic buy. Leeds wanted Archer who was an out an out 9. When that didn't happen they went for a marquee name for the division without properly thinking how it would fit.

I think if Bamford stays fit he should start. It allows Rutter to find space and pick up the ball facing goal. Bamford is a better presser than Piroe and stretches the play. Obviously you need him to chip in with quite a few goals but if he allows for summerville and rutter to get the ball in dangerous positions I think he will be more of a positive.

With you.on this one Batty and Shaun. If that makes me some kind of football manager type character so be it 😀

Morgan Whittaker is another I like, 12 goals this season from attacking midfield / attack. Only 22.

I love the transfer window 🤣

Shocker. Me too. Stick or twist time.

Make an effort to improve and go up.

Or fck around and waste the chance.

I’ll explain my football manager analogy.

You can have a squad of 40, it doesnt effect morale.

You can sign a player who hasnt played all season, he will be fully fit.

You can virtually sign anyone you want, there are no chains or teams not willing to sell their better players.

Piroe would be brilliant up front on it, it doesnt take into account his style of player.

Its that simple.

And unless players go out, we wont be doing much.

And if you dont get the problems with January, you dont understand football or life.

Interesting explanation and some of it makes sense but I think players will be going out though and we'll get a few loan players in.

Very good today. The squad itself is strong bar maybe a left back option if Byram picks up injuries

What I do feel we lack is a dirty player. I don’t mean a thug. But we have all these flashy and talented attackers we maybe lack an experienced, hardworking pro who we can stick upfront and who will either find the net or disrupt the defenders

I’m thinking Bamford in his prime a few years ago. Easier said than done to find

posted on 1/1/24

Not much happened in the summer until we got money in for Adams, I just don’t see us splashing the cash.
Rutter is a workhorse, strong and powerful…a number 10, or an attacking midfielder, he lacks the composure or instincts to be a striker.
Can Badform become Bamford again…played well today.
Slobro became Junior, played well, looked decent going forward, hit the post with a header…I just don’t think the English game suits him.
Finally can someone explain the Macca Wheelchair Dave situation?

Might get told I’m talking b011O@ks here but some of the chances James missed is a huge worry for me. 4 times in good positions - 2 were blocked but they weren’t even going in - half sitters.

Don’t get me wrong - he’s been sensational out wide and improves the midfield. But end product still lacking even at this level

Very harsh

8 goals and 5 assists from 24 games. As a winger.

Who has barely finished 70 mins in a game.

I’ll start worrying when he stops getting chances 👍

Of course players have to go out to facilitate
incomings. Who said otherwise? It's so fcking obvious
there's no need to spell it out for people. That's why
no one else has but you.

So, outgoings are a given for anyone who expects the
'club to strengthen in January.

That said, if we don't, and I'll stress again, we're fcked.
We'll be nowhere near autos. And I also get that even if
we do add/subtract, there's still no guarantee.

Next season in the Championship could be more
restrictive than this one. So why not go for it now?
Yes, it's a gamble. But, that is life.

As I read it, if wrong please someone correct me.

Macca some time ago, has had issues, which meant, now he is in a wheelchair.

He’s found it a struggle, to acknowledge this on here, and set up another account, called Wheelchair Dave.

He has now found the courage to explain this on here.

Now I find this a real shame (not criticising at all) because for all the bickering, disagreements etc etc. When it comes down to it, as seen with Harj and Highland, we really ALL come together.

You wont find many better forums than this

Football aside, that's a really positive and
heart warming post LIW that I'm thinking we all
agree with 100%. Soft (and very caring) git.

And I agree, courage from Macca. One of my

Cheers for that LIW, and you are spot on...this forum is great, a little part of life we all enjoy (mostly), a getaway from what may be going on in our daily lives.

I much appreciate Macca/Dave and long may he continue...MOT!

Happy New Year and best wishes to all!

Firpo did well today but only because there was very little defending to do. He is much better going forward than as a defender. We need a proper LB (been the case for years) and we have tried various solutions without success.

Thought we got better as the game progressed today. A bit of struggle to create much until Bamfords opener. Disjointed and slow build up but somehow managed to get to 2-0 up half time. Cooper was doing is absolute best to offer Birmingham chances but Rodon was the superhero again in mopping up at the back. Second half felt we were better and in total control other than the one lob effort from Brum. Overall a very good victory that sees us reduce the gap to 7 points. Best three were Rodon, Rutter and James.

To join in with the transfers debate. We have played almost the entire season without a genuine 3,8 or 10. Today we saw Rutter do an incredible job at 10. Licensed to roam he caused chaos and IF he can play like that consistently then 10 is solved with Poveda as a back up. Today we saw Firpo playing well. IF he can maintain that level then 3 is resolved with Byram/Shackleton also around. The problem is though 90 minutes isnt enough time to ascertain the answer to those questions and in Firpo's case he is more likely to get injured before he plays another good game.

It would be nice to sign a player that could play 8 and
10 role. Someone that can play a creative pass and shoot from outside the box. A free kick scorer. A set piece man. Not cheap but happy to sacrifice Gnonto to sign one. If we have no money/FFP restrictions then despite despising the summer wantaways I do think Aaronson could add something at this level.

He’s been much better this season but does frustrate at times. He had the chance of a left foot “tap in” yesterday but chose to try and pull it back onto his right foot.

Can’t complain too much though. He’s scored goals, made goals and defended very well at times.

On to Peterborough - a team flying high who just moved into third after winning at Derby.

This one won’t be easy! Are they ever though?

Don't think Leicester will do much in transfer window - already on 65 points with 20 games remaining.
My calculations reckon they only need 8 or 9 further wins for Auto.

Anythings still possible but Southampton now in the groove and looking likely for Autos.

I really can't see us doing much this January other than the odd loan as the 'ex PL loanees' issue in the summer still has to be resolved - still feel this maybe our achilles heel.

Good Paddy had an effective game but I do worry about his 'glass' history in recent times.

Apart from the 3pts I don't think we learnt anything much from this game. I doubt the opposition comes any weaker than this, Birmingham a shocking team, no direction or confidence. Some say Firpo did ok but was giving the ball away willy nilly. He can't defend for toffee, constantly out of position, rarely fussed to track back and Mr clumsy when he does. We need much better and hopefully we'll get it.
Dan James is frustrating at times but well worth his place in the team. Turning out to be a decent all round player at this level.
Agree, Archie has to be playing midfield, has so much to offer.
Still have a great chance of automatic promotion but need a few in and to sharpen the tools we already have.
