Djed Spence

I seem to remember Don mentioned on the match thread that Farke just did not fancy him at right back hence why Archie was preferred to him and Byram at Left back against Birmingham.

This feels like a personality issue in the sense that Farke doesn't tolerate Big Time Charlie characters which maybe Spence was a bit too flash in his attitude for Farke's liking.

Just disappointed how this has worked out as I had high hopes for him. It's another big call. Wouldn't be at all surprised if he was loaned back out to a promotion chasing rival and made a telling contribution playing in his preferred position.

So, rather than strengthening our squad, the club starts
off January by weakening it. Brilliant. That's how you win
promotion. Doubt our rivals follow this genius blueprint.

We really do find ways to shoot ourselves in both feet.

👍.

Yep, he never really got going with us - whether that was his fault (attitude) or for footballing reasons, us mere mortals will likely never know.

Anyway, yes, we need to strengthen this window, not weaken and here’s hoping a LB is announced shortly with options then at both full-back positions.

Exactly this.

Why do we always seem to prefer square pegs in round holes?

Leaves us with Archie playing out of position & Ayling who's being strongly linked with a move as our right back options. For left back we have the regularly injured Byram & the unreliable Firpo.

Just hope we have something up our sleeve.

This is an interesting assessment of why Spence has gone, and who Leeds might be looking at to replace him

Brother in law a Spurs fan he is saying that Spence has always had attitude problems, backed up by an old school mate, these two guys don't know each other. Bit of a coincidence I am hearing it from two sources.
Can do without it in the camp.

Interesting the point he never played a full 90. I think back to the PNE game, Millar has got Archie on toast, we are down to 10 men and we have a natural right back on the pitch in Spence. Farke takes Spence off leaving Gray on.
Spence's attitude cost us that match? Maybe, maybe not.

Not surprised at all by this, manager hasnt been a fan of him and it didnt help matters at Blackburn when he had more gear on than Chris Bonnington then when it was obvious Byram was coming off it took him ages to get ready including a toilet visit also v Ipswich when the players finish their warm up with some sprints by the Kop/west stand he was nowhere to be seen, good move all round for me but a shame as the lad can play.

‘Tottenham put loanee outcast Djed Spence immediately up for sale after being left stunned when Leeds cut £20m star's loan short due to problems with 'professionalism and being good for the group'

Mail!

“It's important, the potential and the quality of the player but also it's professionalism, it's discipline, it's workload on and off the pitch and also the soft skills, so if he's positive and committed, good for the group and engaged with these topics, paint then more or less a picture.

And we decided ok, this is the player we want in our group and want to represent Leeds United, our demands are very, very high and we don't differ between loan players, permanent players - so we are pretty picky in this topic." #LUFC

Thanks for the link Salonika!
He mentions Connor Roberts from Burnley as a possible replacement…not a player I’ve really studied, I think a loan would be best, knows the Championship.
Also, mentions a link to Kieffer Moore…please just no.

TBH

this just higlights my reasoning on Jan transfers.

We got rid of drahem, last minute, and ended up with this waster.

Not fit when he came, injured straight away, and lazy ever since.

This is what your faced with in January.

Unwanted players, not match fit, and have no real desire.

It aint Football manager lads

Turned up an hour late to training yesterday which was the final straw not popular with his teammates good riddance, manager likes firpo so left back is covered if he can stay fit plus we can’t sell for less than £15m without affecting our financial situation, problem is Shack and byram are injury prone as well so wouldn’t be surprised if we get another full back in,

My understanding is that if we bought Slobro for £15m on a 4 year deal, he's now 2-1/2 years into the deal, he'd be able to leave for about £6m to balance the books. Anyone know for sure?

Agree with that, but how does it reflect on our books? I’m thinking the £15m would have been spread over 4 years, but if we let him go now the balance would be applied to FFP immediately…but I’m not positive how it works.

Yes thats excatly.

£3.75meach year, so if he went now, an extra £3.75m would be written off this season.

But you’d save 18 months wages.

I remember shouting at the tv at 4.00 a.m. (sorry, mrs HOF) to get Spence on for Archie, but Farke didn’t and we lost the game. Did something happen to discourage Farke from making a change which all of us could see was essential? Spence has not been in the reckoning since then.

posted on 6/1/24

Its certainly worrying if Farke thinks we are covered at full back.

posted on 6/1/24

Of course Farke is not going to say “Yes, with Spence going we desperately need another left back” cos such a statement immediately puts the price up on anyone we might be interested in. The reality will be different. Let’s see

I can't see us signing anyone. Maybe we'll get a full back on loan. I think we'll stick with what we have. Hope I'm wrong.

Unless we go in with an offer for someone that is too good to decline I think we will get a loan in.

In January you are usually buying unwanted players or ones that have fallen out with their club/manager. I’d prefer a decent loan signing personally - unless we have identified a player we want long term and he’s made available.
