Reading elsewhere that this is a loan but as he is out contract at the end of the season it is effectively the end of Luke's time with us. I hope he appears back at the club so that a proper farewell can be said as this way is very sad.
Always had a soft spot for Ayling, albeit it from a very, very long distance.
Why's he fallen from favour at Leeds? Is it injuries, or simply that he has never managed to recapture the form of his best years? He did sometimes have that air of a player performing above what he actually looked capable of, but it was somehow in more in an endearing rather than overrated way.
That perhaps explains why he was given the armband by Ampadu when Luke came on in the last match. I was a bit puzzled when it happened.
He's been one of my favourite players for so many years. I'm sure he'll be missed around the club.
He's more than earned his place amongst the many great cult heroes of Leeds United. He will always be welcomed back and thought of with huge respect and affection by all Leeds fans. Thank you Luke for your tremendous service to this club and all the very best to you for the future. 👏👏👏

He was given the armband because he is vice captain surely, I know on the day Ampadu was captain but if Cooper had come on at any stage (I know that never was likely to be an option) and Ampadu had stayed on the pitch, Cooper would have been passed the arm band.
Hierarchy is important and regardless of whether he was leaving or not, Ayling is VC.
Will be forever remembered as one of the most committed and loyal players we have had at the club. Always played with a smile on his face.
Really at a loss why we would loan him to a club
not far below us and fighting for a play off place.
The Ayling flop
Thank you Bill
Will always be a big part of the club no matter where
he is in life. Member of the Bielsa legends.

A player who always gave everything,a great shame he couldn't be given a proper send off from the fans.
Will always be remembered with affection.
Good luck for the rest of his career.

Iniesta-like. Actually, It's a 'skill' most Spanish players develop, even guys like Ramos. Maybe it was a thing at the Arsenal academy too.
This is worth a watch, lovely man

I had reservations when he joined us due to this incident:
https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/mar/17/bristol-city-luke-ayling-apology-urinating-glass-cheltenham-festival
but he's proven to have been a great signing and of course at his very best under Bielsa.
A real shame we dont get to say good bye properly at a home game, we really need a pre season match home and away against Bielsa managed Newells.
Birmingham 5-4 was great, but this was surely his greatest goal for us:

Good luck to Luke. One of my favourite players for sure. Seems like a great guy as well.
A bit sad when the Bielsa-era players are leaving. They gave us so much
It feels like the end of an era! Most of the Bielsa guys have now left us. They will always be loved by the Leeds fans and I hope they continue to love our Club like Berardi, Hernandez and Klich do once they have left.
This season people have been going on about Cooper not good enough, Ayling past it, Bamford useless, Darlow will be number 1.....now suddenly sad to see them go....
Was always going to be a job for someone to transition team, same as Armfield had to do, and so far Farke doing good job and isn't going to keep everyone happy.
Let's hope that the club now, compared to the club when Bielsa and Klich left realise how important it is for fans to be able to say goodbye.
Was just watching his goal against Huddersfield yesterday, spectacular finish to one of the best team goals ever. Maybe not quite legend status, but a true Leeds great!
Best right back we had outside of the prem. Best right back since Gary Kelly id say. Pretty big deal him leaving as he's one of the Bielsa heroes.
Great servant to LUFC, always gave a zillion percent, he scored some crackers and made many more and of course gave the world the Ayling flop. I am sure he will be sorely missed by the players and the fans.
Agree that it's weird that he's going to a potential promo rival as he will surely boost their squad but wish him all the best. Great player, great personality!
Does this mean we'll be signing a dedicated right or even a left back this window?
He's also signed a 6 month deal (June) so would that make him illegible for the playoffs?

Wouldn’t be able to play against us as a loan player.
Deffo one of my all-time fav leeds players. Always gave his best. A real player and character.
Scored spectacular goals and
gave us the Ayling flop. Unforgettable!!
Wonderful player for Leeds. Just wonderful.
Absolute bargain for a few hundred thousand.
268 appearances 11 goals.
Every player who helps a club to promotion tends to leave behind fondness and affection. Bill has done that and more.
Great message from Bill

Really nice official message from the club too, and fully deserved. 8 years is a long time for anyone to have committed to any club in modern times. Thank you Bill.
