Fully agree, Farkeness - it seems to happen every Jan that we fail to strengthen in preparation for the run in. The result being (at least in the last two seasons) that we’ve struggled - last year with disastrous consequences. C’mon guys, at least sort out the full back situation.
Can I ask how you know that we know who is available?
Yes we need some cover at full back but I think Farke sees both Byram and Firpo as decent choices. Of course fitness is an issue with Byram.
Right back I think he sees Gray, Byram and Shacks as decent but we have lost both Spence and Ayling who were both able to cover that side.
For me Byram plays right back if he’s fit. Gray and Shacks can cover adequately.
Left back Firpo is starting to prove he might be able to hack it but I think we all agree he’s better as a wing back than an out and out defender.
So even if Farke sees Firpo as his best left back (which I think he doesn’t) then we still need cover there.
Who would you go for out if the ones you say we know are available?

What else do you think we need?
Midfield is excellent and we have Anthony, Shackleton, Gruev, and Gray potentially sat on the bench if we get in full backs.
Centre back we have two excellent ones in Rodon and Struijk with Cooper, Ampadu and possibly Creswell to cover. Struijk might even struggle to get back in with the way Ampadu is performing there.
Up front we have so much choice it’s almost embarrassing. Hopefully we keep them all this winter but we potentially have Gnonto, Joseph, Joffy, Piroe and Poveda sat on their thumbs. You could argue both Poveda and Joseph can cover attacking midfield as well.
For me buying now should be for left back only as we have adequate cover elsewhere and unless someone comes up who is better than what we have then we should leave, what seems to be a happy squad, alone.
Just my opinion of course.
It's got to be a left back. Josh Doig is still available as far as I know, but in terms of value at this level, my Dutch mate says Mats Kohlert at Herrenveen is well worth a look. The thing is, Stoopo, we now have a team dedicated to finding the players we need. We need a left back, agreed? So wtf are they doing about it? Wtf are we waiting for?
My view is that there are still a couple of weeks to sort out a new left/right back probably on loan with Connor Roberts from Burnley strongly rumoured to be the player we are trying to get.
We are currently enjoying an upturn in our form and we seem to have a very happy settled squad with possibly the exception of Cresswell but even he might decide to knuckle down and wait a bit longer for his opportunity to shine which he obviously has been frustrated with not being involved but he's still young and I hope he can be a bit more patient.
Midfield I thought was an area I thought we could do with an extra new signing but that was before Gruev has changed my opinion on his abilities and he now looks a solid competent player.
Obviously up front Bamford is enjoying a bit of a renaissance but his injury record would be a concern but we do have Piroe and Joseph but possibly an extra striker signing would be a good security measure.
Therefore I think by the time the window closes I expect at least the left/right back issue solved with a new player coming in there and I wouldn't rule out an extra centre forward signing too but that's all I'm expecting.
think we have one of the best squads in the league, only full backs we really need to strengthen.
Realistically not sure who would be available in any other position that would strengthen us? without a Highley paid player sat on the bench?
Not sure I like this grass is greener view either, 'the other top 6 have all made signings", smacks of grass is greener.... there's no world beating signings for anyone really.
lets get out this mindset that we must go out and spend a boat load of money because everyone else had made signings. Lets get the right signings for the right price.

Southampton
Love Rothwell and gutted to see him go to Soton. Really liked the look of him at Blackburn. Very busy tidy footballer. Was not surprised that he got picked up by a Premier league side when his contract ended. Struggled for fitness for Bournemouth and hasnt been able to get back into the side under new management.
Leicester - Stable

Skysports were talking a couple of weeks ago about the record recent playoff losers have the following season. Ourselves, Brentford, Villa and Luton all bounced back after playoff disappointment. So Coventry are the team to worry most about, and they're in red hot form atm. We're nailed on top 6, but top 2 has to be the aim, but given how the window has gone, we're happy to get 3rd.
IF we don't address LB and RB in the window
then we'll be taking a massive risk there.
RB
Gray - Very good. Starter.
Byram - injury prone
Shacks - injury prone
Spence - GONE and injury prone
Ayling - GONE and injury prone
LB
Firpo - Injury prone
Byram - injury prone
Leo Hjelde - AWOL
Dallas - Will he ever play again?
Same could be said for CB.
Cooper & Struijk are injury prone.
Cresswell wants out.
What happens if Rodon gets injured?
Upfront, Bamford's been excellent last 3 games.
What happens if he gets injured again?
I'm good with Rutter/Piroe/Joseph.
Is everyone else? Might that be a risk too?
Key injuries to our Prem squad was part
of the reason we got relegated.
Doing nothing is as big a gamble as signing someone.
I don't see the point in signing players unless theyre better than what we have or shore up a weak area of the squad. We're the biggest side in the league refusing to show its muscle. Rowe, Millar, Whittaker, Mumba, Sakamoto, Sara all very good players in the league that we should imo, be looking to add to the side pushing for promotion. Move on Geldhart and sign Whittaker for example, straight upgrade on a potential big money player.
"What happens if he gets injured?"
That's part and parcel though isn't it? - you're lucky or unlucky with injuries, and you'll need players in the squad able to cover where necessary.
We've already got players like Willie, Bamford etc on the bench, both paid well.. how many realistic options do you want? - We can't be spending vast money on players so they can sit on the bench in the hope that one day they'll get to come on for 20 mins.
not ideal of course, but even Dan James has played up top.. quite easily can cover when needed (not that I'd want him to have to of course)
Lets spend some money where its needed. no one has a crystal ball so lets hope we're relatively lucky

But we have injury prone players covering injury prone players.
With Mourinho's sacking and De Rossi's appointment
we might be seeing Rasmus back in Leeds. So there's
that.
I agree with Kebab in that Leicester are the only top
to bottom balanced squad. Add to that, they have
the best squad, playing consistently the best football.
They deserve to be top. They'll be Champions.
Southampton I felt were just behind us squad-wise.
But they're on a roll now. Adding Rothwell adds a
lot to an already solid squad. I think they'll lock up
the second auto spot.
And I'm with Shaun. We're a locked in play off team.
If we do nothing in January, we'll stay a play off team.
Need full back, thats it, unless players leave
Struijk isnt injury prone 🤷🏻♂️
I'm pretty happy with the squad, even with the departures. Injuries can be a factor of course, but I don't want a new player just for the sake of it.
One full back only for me and only then if they're a good fit for the squad/team.
With Spence and Ayling going, would the sensible thing to do not be looking at the positions that are going and seeing how to improve them, feck, I'd think Farke knows more about the players he has and the 49ers'll back him as far as replacements go!..
Who here honestly can say they know what the club are doing, Farke has his way which most will agree is good, but we should also think about the 49ers and their way!..
They do things but don't let on, we have no idea as to what they're upto so shouldn't look at others untill the window closes and we have nothing!..
