So, in reality, we have gained two on soton and two on Leicester, adjusted for games played

We have Saints on the final day, oh boy what a game that could potentially be. Just need to be within 3 pts or better.

^^^

Hopefully it does come down to this. Or, we manage
to overhaul Soton for second before then. Hell of a
season this one. Three Prem teams clearly the best.

Actually, Leicester have played 31 like us, so we have caught up 5 on them in 6 matches. So with 15 matches left, and after we beat them at Elland Road, we’ll be ahead of them with 3 matches still to play !!

And Southampton are just there for the taking.

I’ve already posted above about Southampton’s tough away fixtures, but just had a look at home fixtures against top half teams…

Southampton 6: Hull, Preston, Coventry, Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Watford

Leicester 4: Middlesbrough, Southampton, Norwich, West Brom

Leeds 4: Leicester, Southampton, Hull, Sunderland

Ipswich 3: Watford, Southampton, Middlesbrough

Without doubt, Southampton again have the toughest fixtures remaining.

We got them . 😎

You are of course right about Leicester having played 31 games like us 😊
I like your optimism 😊

Not related but just reading of ivory coasts brilliant win of the AFCON cup and saw Max Gradel mentioned. Is he our Max Gradel?

Think it will be Leicester and Southampton promoted automatically. Not convinced that our inconsistency away from home facilitates a promotion push, but I could be wrong. Happens sometimes.

I said a while ago that the top two will be us and Southampton but even though Leicester are playing poorly they know how to score and win games.

Many of their fans think they have been lucky at times and got points where they shouldn’t have. Will their luck run out?

Maybe, if we beat them next week, they could look at Sunderland and Hull away, followed by Southampton at home with a bit of jeopardy.

But I think I’m probably wrong and they will hold out as champs.

All we can do is keep winning points and hoping other results go our way.

Leeds away last two months

3 Nov Leicester W 1st
24 Nov Rotherham D 24th
9 Dec Blackburn W 17th
12 Nov Sunderland L 7th
26 Dec Preston L 10th
29 Dec West Brom L 5th
13 Jan Cardiff W 14th
2 Feb Bristol W 13th

So we lost 3 out of 8, to 7th, 10th and 5th. Not exactly ‘poor’.

Our away fixtures remaining :

Plymouth 15th
Swansea 16th
Watford 11th
Sheff W 23rd
Huddersfield 21st
QPR 22nd
Middlesbrough 12th
Coventry 6th

Way we’re playing now, should win all those, bar perhaps Coventry.

Yes…the word is ‘should’, but am feeling confident

We will drop points midweek away from home. We didn't beat Plymouth over 90 mins in back to back meetings. Need to be a bit more clinical. At our best, we shouldn't lose a single game till the end of the season.

I find it funny when we're the inform team unbeaten at home, giving others a lot to think about, but have some still not thinking we're good enough to catch any in front of us!..

Maybe the Ipswich fans were thinking no problem not to long back, but it is nice having some thinking against, it gives the players more to prove!..

I think the top two will be watching us more than each other, even though Leicester will be less worried than Southampton!..

posted on 12/2/24

I'm expecting us to win at least 10 of our remaining 15 games and that alone would give us 93 points a total which has always in the past history of the 2nd tier of English football guaranteed promotion.

3 losses from 8 away from home without any of them being against the sides challenging for automatics is not good enough if you want autos this year, I think. More importantly, they tend to be unpredictable and just come out of nowhere, which is concerning.

If you exclude matches against the top 4…..

Ipswich lost points away against Huddersfield, Birmingham, Stoke, Preston, Rotherham

Southampton against Coventry, Huddersfield, Middlesbrough, Millwall, Norwich, Sunderland, Watford, Preston

Leicester against Coventry, Middlesbrough, Sheff W,

Leeds against Birmingham Preston Hull Rotherham , Stoke, Sunderland, West Brom.

So applying your point to the other top 3 teams for the rest of the season, that’s ‘inconsistency’ is not good enough for autos for them either ? 🤷‍♂️

I'm hoping if the unbelievable does happen and we don't get autos we don't have to play Coventry.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Maybe. Although I'd argue Southampton's blip was probably how badly they started the season.

I'm not saying we won't get automatics. We very well might. I just think that right now its Southampton's to lose. I think whoever goes up with Leicester will need so many points that you'd possibly win the league most other seasons. We are prone to the odd silly result, which Southampton don't appear to be at the moment.
