Regardless of our transfer policy, we need the right manager to be able to get the players to gel together and play in a certain way. We still don't have that with EHT. And we aren't suddenly going to have a massive clear-out of players. Some we will get rid of, others will be on big contracts so we'll have to try and get the best out of them.
I have said this before - ETH has tried hard, he even got us a trophy last year, but he has not got this team playing decent football, or in a consistent style. Great effort, but the job is beyond him.
No matter who Jim brings in, and yes, we need all the relevant changes in the background, but ultimately the most important cog is still the manager, and that is not ETH.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Agreed.
ETH keeps talking about creating the right culture but if anything the culture is getting worse. That's on him. He's the main man and is meant to be in charge but it's obvious to me that the players are the ones in charge.
We need a manager like Klopp or Pep who demands respect. Easier said than done I know as there aren't of those around sadly.
ETH isn't up to managing this club. He's well out of his depth. Any Utd manager that loses 7-0 and 6-3 to our biggest rivals in the same season isn't the right guy.

Is the culture getting worse? Or does it have to get worse before it gets better? He's got rid of Ronaldo. He's got rid of Sancho (at least for now). Rashford could be next the way things are going at the moment. I am not at all convinced that ETH can turn things around football wise. But maybe he can at least get rid of the bad apples and give the next manager a fighting chance?. And maybe he is almost there?
We keep hearing about this bad culture at Utd, but I mean, most of these players are internationals, do they go off to them, act as expected, and then come back to Utd and become different players?
We need to sort out Rashford - i don't think he is a bad egg, there is obvious talent there, it's crazy when you compare to last season.
ETH is obv a hard disciplined manager, but does he have other strings to his bow when it comes to management. man-management today seems to be put an arm round some, be hard with others, not one size fits all.
It's not been easy for ETH, I don't doubt the effort, but we simply need someone with both all round man management skills and decent football - yes I want the lot, but that's what you expect at a top club.
I reckon with the right manager, Rashford could be a very good player for us, on a consistent basis. I think the team as a whole, needs some direction - ETH just isn't giving that.
Don't think it's fair to blame the culture at the club on EtH, it's been going on for years. Jose mentioned it and people had a go at him for being too Jose, Ole had to deal with it and tried the nice approach and that only worked for so long, Ralf seemed to see straight away the club was toxic and major changes were needed so we got rid and now EtH has come in and tried to instil some discipline and players don't seem to care because they know they'll more than likely outlast the manager.
Yes EtH isn't doing the best job but I'm pretty certain any manager coming into this mess would struggle and so too will the next one.

It is impossible to know. But I have read reports on Sancho being repeatedly late for England meetings for the U19s and senior team. Apparently its one of the reasons Southgate isn't a huge fan. Greenwood we know was sent home from international duty for breaking COVID rules.
I think it's obv easier to have a good team spirit when the team is doing well etc. But I reckon some managers are just good at developing that spirit - you can imagine Pep, Klopp, Ang, Howe, even Dyche having the players on board.
I can't lie, sometimes I hear ETH talking and just think, shut up man
Stop handing out stupidly high contracts would be a start. I bet over half of these players earn 3 times more than the manager. When some kid comes along and he's on a higher salary than the boss or a senior player in the team, something is seriously wrong with the culture of the club. Not saying its true but I wouldn't be surprised.

Yep, it’s why changing the men at the top will have a bigger impact than any managerial change long term. It’s been allowed to fester for years by the Glazers. Whether ETH is the right man remains to be seen, he probably isn’t, but I don’t think you can really blame him for struggling at this mess of a football club.
My main concern is this was happening long before Ten Hag came in.

I agree with both comments here.
The one thing I will blame ETH for is falling in the same trap a lot of managers do which is signing players from your previous club or whom you have previously worked with.
This often does not work out especially when moving between leagues of a vastly different standard.
The problem with this is that EtH should never have the powers to do that, that isn't how the vast majority of successful club are run, just us because the Glazer's don't care.
Now that Ineos are here and seem to have a plan that involves bringing in people to do that job instead of the manager hopefully we'll see some changes. Whether or not EtH is the man to help make that a success I don't know but I do think that he's had a lot of sh-t to deal with this season.
