There was also a lot of flat pitches in the 90s and 00s which I think boosted some batsman's numbers in comparison to today.
You don't see too many pitches these days where team A puts on 550 then team B puts on 500.

I'd probably put Williamson second in both categories. He is incredibly underrated against the other 3. Averages over 50 in both formats.

Yeah not much in it. I picked Root ahead of Kane as imo the former at times bats for the team more than Kane does.

Take India for example they used to score 500+ almost every test at home back in the day. Now they can barely muster 350 without a struggle.

Take India for example they used to score 500+ almost every test at home back in the day. Now they can barely muster 350 without a struggle.
For some reason they decided to make dust bowls which doesnt help their batters.

Batsmen play differently these days. They take way more risks and the focus now is more on scoring runs quicker than accumulating huge scores
