I won't mind seeing him in the team and if he is a player Ange has his heart set on then fair enough, I just don't think he is worth the money being quoted and of what I have seen from him I've never really been blown away. His discipline is pretty poor.
I mean how does a player playing in that position fit in anyway? We seem quite overloaded in midfield when everyone is fit.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Biss loves a suspension, Bentancur and Maddison get injured quite often - plus the manager loves making wholesale changes during games. Gallagher would get loads of playing time
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sarr?
Kulu can also drop into midfield and if anything seems more successful there now than on the wing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Just look at how much PEH has played, that would be Gallagher at the least. He is more suited to the system and style and would at worst push the starters making them up their game.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not against the move if this is what Ange wants and think Gallagher is a decent player albeit getting a bit overrated lately. For the money that's been talked about it's an awful lot.
It has been a particularly poor season for injuries, suspensions and unavailability though and will not always be like this but with Europe added next season he would definitely get games.
I'll back whatever the club decides. Likelihood is we don't even get him anyway.
I think that if we want decent backups who do not see a big drop off in quality and are also able to push for the first XI, then we have to spend decent money.
£40m does not get you much these days unless you negotiate really good deals or get some youngsters in, Bissouma @ £25m was amazing business, Bents @ £17m similar. Given his age £40m for Gallagher is decent value for us in what is normally an inflated market. They got £55m for Mount, who is more experienced, so £40m seems about right. We'd probably recover maybe half of that with PEH sale, or similar for GLC.
No fussed if this one doesnt go through but it would certainly improve us/our options
He probably wants to stay because he has the chance of being a captain lifting his first major trophy for his boyhood club next month. I'm amazed this rumour has legs. He doesn't want to go anywhere and I'm surprised Ange wants someone so hellbent on remaining where he is.
I'm not sure what the stand-off is with Chelsea and why he's so reluctant to sign a new deal but it does feel a bit odd because he's captain, he's playing every week and Poch seems to love him (which really doesn't surprise me - we all know how much he likes a runner) so why the hell is he even stalling on signing a new deal? It doesn't make sense. Is it the terms? Is it the fact that he's concerned he'll lose his place to another big name through the door. It just doesn't make any sense.

I’m pretty sure it’s not him being reluctant to sign a new deal, it’s them not wanting to offer him one as they need to sell to offset some FFP and as he is HG any sale will be classed as 100% profit on their books. FFP wise it’s much more advantageous to them to sell a HG player than a non HG player right now.

That makes sense but it must make him want to tear his hair out given how important he currently is to Chelsea and it would impact his desire to play at any new club. It won't be him wanting to move, it'll be his club forcing him out. That's crazy. Feel for the guy but I'm not sure we should be taking anyone on board who's heart isn't really in it, particularly as from what I can see, he'd be moving from a club as a certain starter, to another flirting with the bench. I don't think he gets in ahead of Bissouma, Bentancur, Sarr or Madison, personally.
I don't think this deal does make sense. I don't want a player who is Chelsea through and through and has been forced out of his club.
