Personally, annoyingly none of the North African teams made it. Just sheer complacency as much as other nations have progressed.

I'll support South Africa instead

Pretty mad considering how good they have been in last 30 odd years that SK haven't won this since 60.

First final for Jordan as well. Previous best was quarters.

Aye, didn't manage a single shot on target. Unbelievably lucky to make it to the semis in the first place though, after 96th min equalisers in BOTH their previous knockout games, after finishing behind the mighty Bahrain in their Group.

Jordan deservedly beat the favourites South Korea. Jordan finished 3rd in their group but they allowed Bahrain to beat them to avoid finishing first in the grand hence avoiding Japan in last 16. It worked well for them.

Jordan No.10 playing in France top flight league. He scored a fantastic 2nd goal No.11 who scored who scored the first can easily play in Europe.

South Korea tried the same trick and ended up with Saudi and Australia and the worst schedule going 😂

I had the DR Congo as the probable winners of this AFCON before the tournament started.

So far I'm looking good.

I think they'll beat Côte d'Ivoir tomorrow.

Didn't see that coming today.

Jordan have always been decent but never more than that. Good to see.

Just looking at the 2026 World Cup details released today...

11 days straight of 4 games from East to West 🧐😵 Guessing UK kick off times from about 3pm to 2am.
Then 6 games (but 2 at a time) a day for rest of week.

3 games a day for last 32 too.

39 day tournament.

At least 9 African and 8 Asian nations will be there...

Not sure I like the expansion or not really. Ultimately the expansion will make little difference to the eventual winners being very good so probably a positive to let lesser nations have some time in the sun.

I guess you could look at the Rugby world cup, where the group stages had loads of thrashings but by the time the knockouts came the big nations were up to speed and the matches top quality (for rugby).
And, of course, the 24 team AFCON produced some amazing last group game drama where the fear that best 3rd placed teams going through would kill such drama.

There are going to be some bad games, no doubt - probably more than normal. A fair few that won't catch much interest from casual viewers (hopefully the ones on at silly times).

I think the extra knockout round - where the real jeopardy and excitement is - can only be a plus.

World Cup 2026 is going to be all about the scheduling. Surely the Asian sides will play the later kick off times as that suits that audience - obviously if they are against Euro/African sides it will still be an issue for one team but they should at least try and do that.

I do worry about the weather, our players wilted in Brazil and I can see similar if we’re not predominantly playing on the east coast.

Iran have an early lead in the second Asian semi-final.

East coast in summer can be very hot and humid.
