Chelsea are such a weird side. Absolute bobbins in the league but do brilliantly in the cups.

Reminds me of when Middlesbrough got to two cup final actually.

They lost both and went down I think. Ravanelli (sp) scored 30.

For me it would be performances like last night happen then can be followed by WAY worse in the league, would grind my gears if I was a Chelsea fan

Might be that the team, management and coaching staff are making headway to being better, more consistent, next 5-7 games might give a better picture of that for the fans but last night was good to watch for a netural

Well, yeah i suppose , you would not need to Alf Ramsey to conclude that Chelsea currently are going through a very inconsistent period.

But at this point, all CFC supporters will take a decent cup run if its happening, after that well , consistency in the league , how we compete would be progress.

Im not bothered where we finish this season, im more concerned how we compete, win, lose or draw.

Im over the fact that the ownership have totally ffckd up.

Its has happened , now its about how / if they can turn it around ?

I cant see any quick fixs, 3/5 seasons imo for us to be a top six side.

Hope im wrong

3/5 might be too long a period if the players bought and the squad can find consistency, to be honest a lot of the players who came in last 12-24 months I hadn't seen a great deal of but some came with more than decent reviews so maybe they will click and with a few out and a couple of specific signings things could turn around quicker than expected?

Thats the "joys" of being a fan however, not knowing how things will turn out

I think that the outstanding FFP issues under Roman will derail one season, it would be great if we got sanctioned in this season for that , i reckon we would scrap through with a 10 point deduction.

After that FFP compliance going will imo slow the clubs rate of being able to develop the squad so that is a fit for purpose to six outfit.

The squad fix, ?

The defence needs a rebuild at least 2 players in.

The midfield needs a leader 1 player in.

Upfront, well we know a decent striker to support Nkunku and Jackson is really needed.

That is 4 players, how long it will take to bring in the right 4 players is unknown, the club has first remove the 4/5 surplus players over the 25 man squad.

Next it has to move on 4/5 players to bring in the right players in, due to FFP compliance this maywell take time.

I would be amazed if we could overcome and turn this around in 3 seasons.

and those goals, all crackers,
Enzo couldn't hit a barn door last week,
Jackson missed an easier header against Wolves, apart from a few others !
Gallagher must have been practising, 'cos he normally sends 'em into the stand !

Well played boys.

Nah, we've had some decent performances in the league but they tend to be ignored, we've gotten wins or at least draws from them but also played well and lost. We've also played badly and won. It's part and parcel of getting a new manager, several new faces, clearing out established ones and a lot of injuries.

Great performance, there will be more but also some frustrating games, we will become more consistent overtime, there will be additions, there are several players that can be added to the squad even without sales, some on loan. This year is about building the foundations. Got my ticket for a Wembley visit, always a good day out, whatever the result.

goes to show what happens when you take your chances.
The perfomance was not dissimilar to villa home, brentford home, arsenal home, but we took our chances. From then on you get a bit of freedom and can start playing football.

On the flip side we've played poorly in games we've won.

that is the real weirdness of the side.

Not really true.
up until a week or two ago we were second in expected goals, i believe behind your lot.
We've had some very dominant perfomances only for us to miss hatful of chances. weve actually dominated villa 3 times this season now.

Nick, i do actually think this performance clearly illustrates that there is a decent side in there.

The issue is as Poch has stated he has not had 14/15 players to choose from who are all at the same level on a regular basis.

This season I would take consistency as progression win lose or draw.

I think we are paying for the beginning of the season, we knew this year would be inconsistent but we deserved full points (based on perfomance, nothing is deserved if you dont score) against brentford, arsenal, villa, forest and west ham. Would have been an improvement of 14 points.

Now we should have probably lost games too. so take 6 off of that.

But we'd be firmly in a top 6 fight, which is where we should realistically be. Sadly injuries and missed chances mean we are where we are and every dip in form is rightly under a microscope because of it.

The main reason ive been so critical of the ownership is that regarding our season, is that they totally disregarded how important it would be for the club to start the season strong with a goal potent scoring threat.

It has been an issue for several seasons, it was clear that the squad would have difficulties due to its lack of strength in depth, age and level of experience.

I cant understand how the ownership could under estimate the effects of a poor start on the clubs progress.

Considering that they were prepared to invest at the level they did in the way they did, not prioritising a striker over the balance sheet was inexcusable imo.

If we had a better goal return, the league position would be better , we may have the development struggles, but we would have been competitive, in the top six zone.

Any way lets enjoy the positivity of last nights game

I think the board had planned a decent start to this season under Potter, they were swayed and took action so we had to start again. We would be starting again if for example they sacked Poch now. We probably end up with another interim manager, select one over tge summer, they'd get minimum time to work with the team and we would be back to the start of this season.

Poch and his backroom?

Imo, it would be best to let the season play out, im not at concerned where we finish at this point.

Going forward , i think that Poch needs to be seen as he is improving players whilst simultaneously improving the sides ability to compete and go toe to toe. Win, lose or draw.

If we finish the season as a lackluster side, lacking in confidence, imo there will be a case for changing, but it will risk derailing the preseason ect. ect. depending who came in.
