"taking one for the team" cynical fouls do my head in, so I'm in favour of it for that. Having said that, applying it to dissent too is a negative imo as we know they'll not be consistent in said application

Joke if they bring this in.

Will hinder the flow of the game as teams will change to low block tactics intermittently when they go down to 10.

And for the officials, they are nowhere near getting VAR right after 5 years, so why on earth would you add an extra - completely unnecessary - complexity into the referring process? It just creates an additional point of failure.

They just need to leave the game the fack alone. It’s the most popular sport on earth for a reason, stop trying to fix something that isn’t broken just justify your jobs.

Stop trying to turn football into rugby. One is the most popular sport in the world and is only getting more popular. The other is a dying sport played by posh lads.

Aside from the fact that this will encourage defensive football, it's also going to open a can of worms regarding injury too. We all know there's been a huge rise in muscle injuries based on the pauses that take place for VAR so standing idly in the technical area for 10 minutes is fraught with problems.

Why on earth would referees want more pressure? It's still subjective because what constitutes dissent for one ref will be different to another. What was so wrong with getting a yellow card for dissent? It changes the way you play and it means they get targeted for the rest of the game. The current system works fine as a punishment. Why change it?

It's like the handball rule. What the feck were they doing with that? Ball to hand / hand to ball worked perfectly fine. Now it's silhouettes, unnatural movement and complete and utter confusion.

The game is being governed by people that seemingly have never kicked a feckin football in their lives. I hope this trial fails miserably. Fecking cretins.

fridgeboy is right, also don't forget the referees that have CVD(colour blindness) as well as Myopia !

The game is being ruined by bureaucratic buffoons, sat on their backsides drinking coffee, with nothing better to do than to saddle the poor little referees with their mad ideas !

If they're talking about monkeys then you've got your answer as to why he's filtered.

Going back to the discussion, what happens if a goalkeeper is binned? If you can go in the sin bin doesn't that then mean you can have temporary subs? It should do because if you make a substitution to get you through 10 minutes of a match, it changes the outcome of the entire game if you have to sub a player permanently.

I cannot for the life of me understand how this has got the green light. It can only be because they want to sanitise the game further, make it even more family friendly but there has to be an acceptance that players, in that moment, are competitive with a will to win. You can't expect players to switch emotionally that quickly. Let them have their rant and crack on with the game. Christ. It's not a big deal. The best referees allow them to do it. This is an initiative to change the way kids treat referees at grass roots level because they've probably seen dissent on television and felt it was fair game to do the same. I understand that but you don't solve that issue by being more dictatorial. You do it with reason and understanding. Good referees manage it. If you're looking for respect at all levels of football for referees, this doesn't heighten respect, it reduces it.

What Fridgeboy said. It's gunna make matches even more slow, tactical & defensive. It's already getting dangerously close to human chess as it is.

The cynical foul idea won't work. Most coaches will take the hit of having 10 men for 10 minutes vs. conceding an attack without numerical advantage - locking the door for a whole game is hard/exhausting, doing it for 10 mins is relatively easy for any decent team against anyone.

What people seem to be forgetting is that this may actually help eradicate dissent, to a large degree.

You’re considering the rule being applied with the current level of dissent, where as clearly this is as much a deterrent as it is a punishment.

Which is exactly how it’s played out in the non league games I’ve seen with it.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Perhaps an idea would be to implement it at the grassroots level, where you get abusive pitch-side dads egging their kids on to use the kind of underhand tactics they would because they were never any good at football and growing up had talentless cloggers like Martin Keown as their heroes. I'm not saying sin-bin the kids for having abusive parents - though that would be tempting - but to drive home the point that their dads' aggression might fly in the stands but has no place on the pitch.

The consequences of under 14s and younger going a player down might even help the coach to get the kids to practice a bit of tactical/defensive discipline now and then.

And you'd get respect for the referee in at the ground floor, instead of trying to discipline fully grown men who've grown up seeing this sort of behaviour as a completely normal way of trying to gain a competitive edge - because that's what most dissent is about, trying to get into a ref's head to influence the next decision.
