Newcastle CEO Darren Eales:

"We are naturally disappointed that Dan [Ashworth] has chosen to leave; however, our exciting journey doesn’t stop, and the process to recruit a new sporting director will begin immediately."

I expect Utd to announce the world record signing of our first DoF!

We don't do things by halves!

Now DoFs warrant a huge transfer fee?! What exactly do Newcastle think he'll provide that will materially impact them? As if they need the money!

He's one of the best, not necessarily best in class. This is naturally a tactic designed to dissuade the man and cool our interest. A compromise is inevitable as it would be pointless retaining the services of a man who is restless.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Or it’s simply part of his current contract.

Possibly but I doubt he's on a footballer's salary or the equivalent.

Which one of our new top level signings brought in for the new structure will be the first to be outed as a paedophile/rapist/wife beater just once things start to look up?

Given he’s coming from City it’s obviously got to be Omar Berrada.

So why not leave him on gardening leave until his contract expires?

------------------------------------------------------------

My argument is precisely that Newcastle have leverage in this situation because the cost to them of doing so is relatively modest compared with the damage of letting him go early and the potential compensation figures they can attain. I'm not arguing that's an absolute, that no compensation figure convinces them to let him go immediately, but I'm arguing that this dynamic means Newcastle are in a position to extract a compensation fee significantly higher than the value of the remainder of Ashworth's contract, probably while also delaying his move to United by a few months.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

If the costs are relatively modest in comparison to the damage Ashworth joining United would cause, then why not keep him on gardening leave until his contract expires?

No, and Tesco don’t have to charge for their food, but that’s business.

There's that guy that works with Radcliffe that has links to doping in cycling. Wonder why United need his type. Should be a good story when it breaks.

Don't be ridiculous. They're losing an allegedly talented and important person to a rival club who will use his expertise to try to make United better for years to come, not just this season. Even their fans would be livid if they just rolled over and get their belly tickled. You're looking at it from a selfish Man Utd only angle.

Newcastle paid what? £5m for ashworth compo, if they double their money they’ll have done well

posted on 19/2/24

So you've Got:-

Omar to cook the books.

Brailsford to dope the players.

I assume the only reason you're going for Ashworth is because Jeffery Epstein is dead.

Moyes did say we should aspire to be like City (don’t think he meant employing paedos like you, though).

Took a guy from a smaller club who was put on gardening leave.
Same thing is happening to them now and they have thrown their toys out of the pram.

I hope whichever club they approach for Ashworth's replacement quote them £15m for the privilege. 😂

Hope in his first interview or statement he just refers to us as United all the time, Newcastle seem to get wound up when people do that.

So do West Ham and Leeds fans. It’s funny that it annoys them so much.
