I was actually more optimistic after last night than before, I think I fell for the hype about how good this Leeds team is but we really did play them off the park while I expected them to steamroller us until that last fateful 10 minutes although we'd actually won the game already, well without useless officials that is.
It was another game where Enzo's subs are questioned again, he like many before him seem to get them wrong more times than right when it's a crucial point in the game, he needs to start learning quickly from his mistakes.
Vestergaard being missing is a big worry, he is the Rock in defense and was again one of the better players on the pitch, I'm not sure can replace him, will it be Coady or Souttar, either paired with Faes could bring problems.
Daka like all our forwards is marmite, he scored and got an assist last night while missing that obvious massive chance, Ian just doesn't cut it, Vardy is in his final throes and Cannon is still the apprentice.
Having a goal scoring forward is the must to survive in the Premier, does Enzo feel that playing the City way, the forward is there to link up and create space for the wingers to run into, k=hence the large amount of players scoring in the team as opposed to say Vardy getting 24 in the Season,
Mav and Fats started the Season well, they were exciting and not afraid to take players on, they now seem to have hit a brick wall, especially Fats who was very poor last night, is that a change in tactics to keep the ball or a lack of confidence?
A much changed feel to the League now, we have the harder run in than the others but if we play like we did last night we'll be fine, don't really care about winning the league although that would obviously be great but the minimum needs to be promotion.
Certainly not doomed. We are definitely getting promoted BUT
- You don’t get points for playing teams off the park. You get them by being clinical in both boxes. It’s a concept Enzo seems to struggle with and is the reason we won’t walk the division this season and the reason we’re going to get absolutely destroyed in the PL
- A great coach doesn’t make a great manager. It’s the reason our players are great on the ball, developing well but losing key games. It’s about moments - a great manager can make the right tactical decisions at the right time. Enzo can’t. He’s destined to be a no.2 I’m afraid
- A rudderless club with poor strategic direction will always come unstuck in the end. This is a team that were always going to be too good for this division. Being able to stay in the top division means sowing the seeds for success when you get there. Rudkins ‘Man City lite’ approach is foolhardy and reckless. This style cannot succeed in the PL for this size of club - not without unbelievable recruitment, which we no longer have
We’re on course for automatics, but the last 2 weeks are just proving all of my fears about our long term direction absolutely right. Which i hate because i would desperately love to be wrong
Really good article and responses π.
I’m really angry still by how we lost that game last night more than anything. We were in totally control of the second half and should have just put the game to bed and didn’t. And when you don’t you get punished.
Verstergaard was easily our best player last night for me and will be missed. He’s actually our most solid defender in this system. I think he’d be ok in the prem, I’m more worried about the front 3 where I feel that we get in way too many good positions and do absolutely nothing with it.
Unlike others I’m not confident of promotion. We’d need a bad run to fall into the play-offs and we’re not playing bad e Pugh for me to think that will happen, but we also have fallen into a bad habit of not killing games off, so we need to come back and be on it again. Fingers crossed Enzo works to eradicate the errors on the training pitch and we can get of the line. It’s mentality now, and that’s one thing Enzo seems ok with. Let’s hope so.
The next league game I feel is massive, win that and normal service resumes, fail to win and it's .......... I don't want to go there.
Huge disappointment the way it panned out last night, might easily have won 0-3. We didn't and have to take positives and move on.
An off game for Leeds and we scored three.
Really should have had at least five. After the next round we'll be only three back and you'll be starting to panic. Another year in the championship awaits you.

Wow! For the first in a long time TB I find myself in heated agreement with virtually everything you have written.
I agree that Vestergaard has been massive for us this season but worry that Enzo and the club think that he's the answer going forward. As well as he played last night he didn't cover himself in glory for their crucial opening goal.
I'm afraid that Fatawu not having the best of games may be partly down to his age, but also that opposition managers have sussed out that our wingers provide most of the danger for us going forward, and as such they have tended to double team them; that points the finger at Enzo unfortunately, he needs to come up with more of a plan B to take advantage of what the opposition are doing - if they are committing extra men wide there should be gaps elsewhere.

Although being clinical will be vital in the EPL if we get promoted, I worry more that Enzo is basing his whole philosophy around Jannik; as good as he's been this year, I fear for next, he's going to be too pedestrian against the strike forces we'd be facing. Assuming he decides to stay of course!

Again another post I'm in heated agreement with - except I don't think Vestergaard will be ok in the EPL, I reckon his lack of pace will be a disaster.
Vestergaard in the Premier League is a total unknown, no one can say how he'll do.
He might not have the pace, unlike Tielemans who needed 6 other players to do everything for him so he could play well, all Vestergaard needs is someone with pace to give him some cover now and again.
That Goal saving tackle last night where he came out of no where with a starting position probably ten yards behind their pacy player shows how well he can do.
I still worry about Vaes more than anyone in defense apart from Doyle when he plays.
Lets get there first then worry about it, at the least he's put himself in the shop window but also deserves a crack at the Premier League without a traitorous Irish Muppet in charge.

All we to do is play like that against the rest of the dross in this division and we get automatic. You have to do the same - simple as

And yet there were only 2 weeks ago arrogantly laughing away any criticism after walking through an awful stoke team away from home. How things can change in a couple of games. We’ve gone from being world beaters, miles ahead of the rest of the league, to losing back to back, being dragged into a title race and looking very poor in both boxes.
This is exactly why Burnley are getting it handed to them this season. You can boss the ball all you want - if you don’t have the quality of players to execute the style we want to play against quality opposition - you’re going to lose games.
We’ve taken 2 points from 12 when playing Ipswich and Leeds. Our record against the other promotion chasing sides is poor. Why? I would suspect that is because we’ve walked through this division by not getting punished by mostly very poor teams. We can miss chances because we will create more. We give away multiple chances to the opposition and we get away with it week in, week out. Cue the promotion chasing sides - and it’s a different story. They don’t care about dominating the ball. They care about the key moments.
That is the reason why our DoF is setting us up to spectacularly fail next season - something you can’t seem to quite understand

An off game for Leeds and we scored three.
Really should have had at least five. After the next round we'll be only three back and you'll be starting to panic. Another year in the championship awaits you.

An awful wum attempt. We battered you last night, had a goal disallowed incorrectly and missed a bunch of sitters. You scored a deflection and got handed the third by a stupid vestergaard challenge (who was actually responsible for 2 of our conceded goals)
All we to do is play like that against the rest of the dross in this division and we get automatic. You have to do the same - simple as
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It may have been a wum but the fact remains we did score 3 and we could have got more.
You couldn't score sitters and had 40 % of the ball. Oh yeah we did the double on you also. No reason to think you've got this sewed up

Apart from the 78 points we already have and the fact nearly every other team we have to play are gash. We’ve got it sewn up
