Thoughts from tonight

Didn't play that well again but we have the quality and knack to keep getting the job done. Rutter was the star man tonight for me, plenty of work and guile. Apart from the goal, Bamford looked poor for me, couldn't miss from 4 yards and that 1 on 1 in which he got caught up by slow centre backs showed him up. Need better than him if we go up.

Another cleansheet, we just don't look beatable even when not playing well, that's just how it works with an 80 million squad in the second division.

Think Ipswich will drop points tomorrow in the early kickoff at Cardiff.

My observations:

Barry Bannan looks more and more like a lighthouse
keeper in an indie art house movie as every day passes.

Bamford has the athletic running style of a librarian
running back into a burning library to save a rare,
first edition novel.

Valentin made every flop that ever happened in the
history of football look like a legit foul.

Cree Summerville looked anonymous outside of
the push that caused Valentin's flop that made every
flop that ever happened in the history of football look
like a legit foul.

The Welsh Fort Knox continues to be massive at CB.

The giant headed Frenchman looks Prem level.

Archie otherwordly talent.

Firpo not a defender. But, still a cool cat.

Gruev & Kamara solid.

Everyone up front including Bamford, should be
good enough to get us second place at least.

Very happy tonight.

Saw a lot of comments all week about people worried about this fixture. Sheffield Wed under Danny Rohl have been the 8th best side in the league which is astonishing given the team he took over with 3 points after 11 games?.
First half we struggled to to string 3-4 passes together as Wednesday defended well. It took a special cross from Fipro along with some great movement from bamford to unlock the door and then with the game more open we went on to win comfortably.
Thought Rodon and Ampadu were the base from which the game was won tonight.

A note on bamford after the criticism above.
Since he came into the team first game of 2024 we have won 11/12 games. He’s scored 7 league goals and an fa cup goal. Bamford scores “the tap in” tonight because he has the awareness and movement to help create it. I’m really not sure what else he could have done in 2024.

Thoughts from tonight my version:
Absolute dross for 45+ minutes and we score.
Total dominance 2nd half and increase our lead, one moment of anxiety after Meslier fumbles…many chances squandered but comfortable 3 points in the bag.

Morning all๐ŸŒž. To add my thoughts …

Yes, result is all that counts now. 3 fantastic points and pressure on Ipswich (can also see them dropping points today and then our destiny returns to our own hands).

Paddy. Really pleased for him. Got some deserved stick in times now past, but credit where it’s due. The boy’s doing good.

Cree. Looking very jaded atm. Let’s hope the relatively relaxed schedule now allows him some time to find his form again.

Firpo. Very hot and cold. Fantastic intent shown for Paddy assist but gave the ball away needlessly to their advancing midfielders 3 times - thankfully nothing came of it.

Mes. Very fortunate for the save off the outside of his thigh … but maybe you make your own luck. Critical turning point in the match so thank you Mes.

Delighted with the result. Time now for the boys to get a little rest before stuffing Millwall.

Still cant believe we havent signed 7 strikers ๐Ÿคฆ

Am with Jonty on Gruev.

Passing the ball five yards after, miss controlling the ball(See how many times, the ball, flicks up when he receives it) is quite something.

Also, he passes the Ball like paul Okon( Still have nightmare with that useless t@at)

Looks at the ground and nods when he passes it ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿป‍โ™‚๏ธ

Two Firpo's out there last night, the one up to the pass to Bamford, absolutely awful, second half, superb.

Thought he was team in cameo actually, thought we were quite poor in the first half and it wasn't until the goal that we woke up.

Gruev rarely gives the ball away, his pass completion since he signed is ridiculously high. I’m not a massive fan of this sort of midfielder but I can why he’s playing.

I think Farke’s management of Bamford deserves massive credit. He was rushed back by the last 2 managers and he suffered more injuries, lost fan support because he was unfit. Farke gave him half a season to build up to his best and now he’s looking like a real asset again.

Funny how we all think we weren’t playing well first half and it was same against Stoke but we restricted them to 1 lucky chance from a set piece and had 5/6 chances ourselves. Shows a sign of a good team.

I'm sure I've had £50 on us to win the league but no idea with whom, might just have to hope it pops up somewhere, the 100pts is still on though,
Good professional performance last night which is all we can ask as someone once said Job done,

Don't understand the criticism of some of our players sometimes. Gruev been excellent since hes come in. Bamford in excellent form. Firpo has done enough in this league. Struijk was good earlier in the season and was made captain. Meslier has surprised me how good hes been.

A few players are going to need replacing if and when we go up but just enjoy the ride.

exactly - we’ve got to enjoy this as we go along. But you are right Outwood, huge discussions to be had about who stays and who goes should we go up.

Some controversial - couple of examples

1 - Gruev - done well so far can’t fault him. But is he really PL quality ? Not sure he’ll be as impactful

2 - people won’t agree but Meslier. Again faultless this season but we saw in PL when his confidence goes he’s shot. He won’t be protected by defensive as much as he has been here - has he learnt from his mistakes at that level. Not sure

A view from the opposition if I may on the morning after the night before.

I thought Leeds quality shone through. You scored two very good goals at the right times. The one before halftime completely changes the team talk for both managers. I was gutted to conceded at that time but the delivery was different class and Bamfords positioning was exactly why he plays.

I expected us to come out firing I'm the second half but the second goal killed the game and you would have made it three but for a great save from our keeper. I worried at that stage that it might get nasty but we dug in and didn't let our heads drop. Which is a good sign for the rest of the season. Who knows what would have happened had we scored first.

A few points on Leeds. You could do with two of Ampadu. He was very good at centre back but you could do with him in midfield too. Gray is a very exciting prospect. He was very calm in a few situations last night which given his age is very impressive. Great away following as usual.

For us it wasn't really this game that will make the difference although any points would have been well received. Its the games against Millwall, QPR and Blackburn that will count the most. We play Ipwich next which is another free hit I suppose.

Anyway, thank you for letting me join in and good luck for the rest of the season. I think its that extra quality that will see you over the line

Yeah that's why stuijk comes in when he is back. Need Amapdu in midfield. Think we would have more control in midfield if he was there instead of Gruev

Sloppy - your a gentleman. Very balanced comments.

Your lads attempted to play football, unlike Huddersfield. Think you have a great chance of staying up.

On Leeds, Rodon and Ampadu were just immense - Ethan's clearance off the line was best moment of the match for me.

Paddy, as I stated on the match thread, was frustrating me no end, but after the goal he was really good for the rest of the game. The stats since he came back clearly means he adds a lot to our winning team can't really argue with that.

Firpo was another one that looked initially so so, but again after the assist for the goall had a really good game.

Cry clearly needs the rest and Rutter had a better game than the Stoke fixture.

Gruev, although looking workman like, was solid and Kamara had a better game than Tuesday.

Wasn't 100% but in the end a steady win.

Last nights game was potentially the most difficult fixture until the final game of the season snd thought we handled it very professionally and were tactically spot on.
Wednesday are in fine form and gave us a real game 1st half. They willl be safe this season.
Daniel Farke has done a fabulous job. We're full of confidence snd have cover in every position
Feeling so positive st the moment.

More or less agree with what's been posted so far especially about let's just appreciate the ride and enjoy potentially getting automatically promoted with 100 points.

I think it's obvious the players we have that will not unfortunately be good enough in the EPL and will need replacing but we can worry about that later and just applaud the tremendous team spirit Farke has orchestrated and has undoubtedly given all of us and is giving us as fans unforgettable feel good Leeds United memories.

Sloppy - we always welcome sensible posters on here!

We will be rolling the red carpet out for you if your team can do a number on Ipswitch for us.

Funny enough I’m 11,500 miles from home and have just had dinner. The waitress came over and said she recognised my accent. She was from Sheffield and a Wednesday fan.

Good stuff Sloppy and good luck this season.

Its nice knowing Farke has a job to do when this season is over, but it can't be to nice him knowing he has to decide who stays and who goes if we go up!..

My take on the players, they are the people that are doing Farke proud, they're doing things his way and its paying of, even on bad days we're doing what good teams do, and you never know, that first place spot that I've been looking at "all" the time is very catchable!..

Say what you want about Bamford, Firpo, Gruev and any others, if we go up they're all part of the team that got us there and will have earned the right to be part of the cellarbrations!..

after the penalty miss v Stoke, I never wanted to se Bamford in a Leeds shirt again, but there is no denying the team plays better with him in it. Also, what he lacks in pace, he makes up for with footballing intelligence. I think he will struggle if we get promoted, but we said that the last time, didn't we?
