he's now 10th amongst all PL players with at least 1000 minutes this season for non-penalty goals and assists per 90.

1. Bailey - 1.03
1. Jota - 1.03
3. Salah - 0.99
4. Darwin - 0.97
5. Son - 0.95
5. Watkins - 0.95
7. Haaland - 0.94
8. Richarlison - 0.87
9. Awoniyi - 0.79
10. Johnson - 0.75

some decent Liverpool and Spurs propaganda there

His stats since Christmas have been very good.

I think the start of the season he was probably seen as an impact sub, to develop into the team over time, but ended up starting a lot due to injuries and Deki having to play centrally.

With Werner now in the squad he's been able to come on and make an impact. I was surprised he started yesterday, especially on the left where his delivery seems worse, but he actually did really well.

Yes he looked decent. Even though I wanted him to start we've seen players like him, Werner and Richarlison have good impacts from the bench and then underperform in the next game when given a start. Luckily he did well.

In terms of how high his ceiling is, will he ever get to where some of the top guys in his position are? Like a Son, or a Saka, I'm not sure. I would say he lacks the technical ability to reach those standards but I'm happy for now with his goal contributions and long may it continue.

We need better but he’ll be a good off the bench option

Good points on technical ability but maybe that'll improve? But clearly he's not terrible there. Either way I hope he maintains his direct style. I get why some fans hated him - when it doesn't work he's just shanking shots and running into people. But he almost always takes the shortest route to goal that puts the defender under pressure. I like that.

The guy's 22 and already shown good improvement, and his numbers since Christmas are strong.

Why can't Johnson be "the better" that you want, or do we have to spend £80m before you are happy?

That would make sense if I didn’t rate Kulusevski higher than Johnson being he cost half as much

Johnson doesn’t have the technical ability to be a top player we should be looking for

I can't see he's going to be good enough to do the things real world class forwards do, like weave past players or produce scintillating through ball passes or be a very polished finisher. But at the moment he's doing well and contributing to goals and it's helping us. Definitely a good squad player at the least.

I don't think anyone would have called it about Son either at the time. 22 years old, first season at a proper club.. it could definitely happen. It just feels too early to me to say this is his ceiling

Man's been judged. Might as well sell him now.

Same folk saying Son was on his way out last season.

I saw first hand the start of Modric and Bales careers at Spurs. Also Eriksen. None of them an instant hit and the same with Son too.

Jeez, look at Kyle Walker. Very slow start, didnt even break into the team until he was 21/22, even when on form he had frequent brain farts, now a key City man and one of the most decorated English players of all time.

Fair enough and it's a true point. I will hope he can prove me wrong, not that I'm not happy with his progress.

The talk of Son being past it was stupid after he had his best ever season the season before.

True there have been players who got off to slow starts and went on to be so much more. I guess it's just as much about the probability that he'll go on to reach the sort of levels we're talking about, which given how many have become world class, for example, is a small minority in the vast number of players we've signed in recent decades, just in the attacking area.

Walker did win the PFA YPOTY when he was like 21/22 though, so it did show he had that potential in him even if he didn't always live up to it after.

I agree that Johnson is average technically. He doesn't have the close control, trickery, touch and shooting technique that the best wingers have.

But, he gets into decent positions, stretches defences is an outlet with his pace. Obviously there's room for him to get better in all aspects because he's 22.

I'd like to see him up top. Reckon he could be our Nunez

Yep BJ is defo getting better. He looked confident yday on the ball and had the beating of Cash.

He’s a young lad still. Plenty of time to develop

posted on 11/3/24

He’s still young and got a lot to learn, attacking and defensively, but he’s definitely improved as the season has gone on

posted on 11/3/24

BJ is very similar to Rashford imo. Whether he surpasses Rashford during their careers will be up to him. But he is progressing well so far imo

Rashford's a good comparison. Unlikely to ever be prolific but always dangerous and a pain to play against

I think Rashford had a bit more ability and was a little bit ahead at that same age but hopefully BJ will remain more focused than Rashford going forward. No silly haircuts so far which is good.

Confidence is key with Brennan you can see the confidence in him he is now finding that swagger along with the effort. I really like him.

Johnson is Johnson, ....nothing to do with Rashford.
He's fast down the left, Kulushevski is fast down the right, and then there's Son in the middle playing the ball with either of them.
Its all part of a 2-prong attack. Today Son played it with Johnson.
Actually, Son scored too, and that pass may have come from Kulushevski,...I've forgotten!
But I belie the idiots who think Johnson has anything to do with Rashford. Totally different players.
Johnson brings his talents to AusslieGlue's table, and that's mainly direct speed towards goal.
