Not Wanting Arsenal to Lose..

Frankly, all of that is more important than watching Arsenal lose. I just do not care one bit about them. I saw that Overlap fan debate the other day and that Flav bloke from The Fighting Coccck said that he hates Arsenal just as much as he loves Spurs. He'd prefer to see Arsenal fail than us qualify for the CL. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. It's so pathetic. It really is. We need to stop looking over the fence and start focusing more on us.

I don't think you truly understand fans if you don't understand how some fans dislike their rivals to that extent. And even if you do, maybe accept that not all people have the same opinion as you.

I despise Spurs and Chelsea in equal measure and watch your games to see you both lose (hopefully in an embarassing fashion). If that makes me pathetic, small-time etc etc then so be it. That's how it is.

I get it, although I did cheer on Boro and Fulham when they had their Euro runs, there is zero rivalry or hatred of them for me. Would be the same if Palace, Bournemouth or Luton ever had a chance

Don't get me wrong, I feckin hate Arsenal, Chelsea and West Ham (and City, United too).

BUT

I love Spurs more and that's the most important thing. If you going deep in the CL helps our chances of qualifying for it then so bit it. I still hope you get utterly destroyed in the final.

Oh, and for the record, I have no problem with others having different opinions but when other Spurs fan come on here and say that if you're supported Arsenal last night you're not a true fan, I'm going to defend myself. It's less about stopping others having an opinion and more about defending my own. It was another poster that started it.

So you're telling me that when we face Liverpool and City you won't be supporting Spurs?

No i will be supporting Spurs but we've a real chance of winning something so your results against those means a lot. However, no i wouldn't want you to win if we were 5th with 10 games to go and CL qualification in our own hands. I'd want you to lose and then hope that we could do the business ourselves.

If Spurs won the CL and we benefited from getting CL qualification then I'd be absolutely gutted tbh.

What’s ideal for us would be Dortmund and Bayern going out next round and Arsenal and City progressing. Then I hope both Arsenal and City get done in the Semis.

Short of that, if Bayern, Dortmund and Arsenal get knocked out and City progress then that is fine also.

The big game for us is West Ham vs Freiburg - we need West Ham to turn that one round

So if arsenal won champions league and the prem and we got 4th, you would be happy? Its also not a chasm man, feels like you are being caught up in the media hype of the title race. We’ve held our own against all 3 of them in the league (granted city toyed with us in the fa cup) and IF we didn’t have that terrible run of form+injuries after chelsea, we likely would have been a lot closer.

We’ve been in CL numerous times and not kicked on. Its just not that incredible for us to get in there anymore. Of course I enjoy being in there but not gonna get a hard on for it. We were in it last year ffs and arsenal were not, but who made the better signings and kicked on? Exactly.

You’ve also alluded to us making good signings now - thats happened without us being in the champs. Even ange has said champs is not the holy grail you think it is.

We don’t. We can finish 4th on our own. Whats with all this hoping and praying for our rivals to help us get 5th

Because as a Spurs fan I know Fulham, Forest, Luton, Burnley and Sheff United are all potential banana skins. Despite our win over Villa we’re still 2 points behind them and our game in hand is against a Chelsea side we beat very rarely - what is it 2 wins at Stanford Bridge since Gary Lineker was playing for us.

Add in games against Arsenal, City, Liverpool, Newcastle and West Ham - I don’t understand the confidence for 4th place, it will be a coin flip.

5th though is a shoe in as long as we beat the very beatable sides - Fulham, Forest, Luton, Burnley, Sheff U. We will pick up 3-5 points in the others leaving United needing to win 8 or 9 games from their final 10 - which they don’t stand a chance of doing

Yeah but villa also have to play the top 3. Plus they are just as inconsistent as us. We should have nothing to fear in a fight for 4th, its not like we are 6 points behind and only 4 games to go.

No but we are still behind and points in the bank is better than a game in hand, especially when the game is one we rarely ever win.

I think Opta gives us a 55% chance, Villa 41% and United 4% of finishing 4th. It’s not open shut by any means

No, of course not but I don't think Arsenal have the experience to get close to winning this competition. I'm confident that even though they could get a to a semi, they won't go on to win it. We just need them to go deep into the tournament and outperform the German sides. They don't need to win it. So me being pleased about them going through isn't a desire to see them win it. I hope they get humiliated once 5th is confirmed as a CL place.

In terms of recruitment, yes we've improved massively over the last couple of years but that's to do with scouting. We can't measure how well we'd recruit with CL money based on the signings of Ndombele and GLC. They were poor signings but surely if you give good recruiters more money, they'll find even better players.

I think as Striketeam says, everyone is taking fourth for granted just because we beat Villa. It's going to be so much closer than we all think and United are definitely not out of it. They've got by far the most favourable fixtures so we can't assume 4th or even 5th is ours. It's Spurs. It would be typical of us to finish 5th only to find that it doesn't get a CL place after all. We've been here before in 2012 remember. I'm just applying an abundance of caution.
