Poor decision
Wealth of experience and is our best defender

If he was willing to take a massive pay cut I wouldn’t be opposed to keeping him around in a squad capacity as he is still capable of being an incredible defender. But the problem is that he’s just not someone we can on and isn’t worth the wages he’s on, as a result.

He’s missed 5 games this season although he was dropped for a while too.

Too injury prone, good decision to release him.

Best defender we have. Martinez arguably could be our best overall for what he does for the side, but don’t think anyone’s better at actual defending than Varane.

True. Personally thought he was our best player last season when Rashford, Casemiro and Martinez got more praise.

Seven in all comps and getting dropped has probably helped him get fewer injuries. We’ve more than enough evidence to know he cannot be relied on to play regular football for us.

What are your thoughts on whether he should stay or go?

I think he’s our best pure defender and if he would accept a one year deal even on his current wages I would renew.

Hmmm tough one. I think I’d prefer him to stay all things considered. One more year of his high salary won’t ruin us and Martinez has been too unlucky with injuries.

I’m not sure it’s worth it for about £18m isn’t it that he’s on? I agree he’s our best defender, but I think we really need to clear the decks, reducing the wage bill will give us some headroom to do that, and get some players that can be relied on to play every week.

Unless he wants to take a massive pay cut I’m not sure we’ll offer him another year either.

We definitely have to be careful offloading all our experienced players at once. Most fans are all in agreement that we don't have enough as it is.

Every good, but unreliable fitness wise. Let him go.

Better getting rid of planet head maguire

posted on 13/3/24

I think we are in for a very tough season again next year unfortunately whoever the manager is.

We've got so many issues to solve and we won't have a huge war chest to fix it.

Casemiro Varane and Rashford all potentially leaving would definitely look good on the balance sheet but what's left over is truly scary. The recruitment team are going to have to have an absolute blinder this summer to make us a top 4 contender again next season.

It’s time for United to clear the decks. Starting with overpaid has beens like Varane and Casemiro.

Getting rid of both would be preferable.

I don't think he's a has been. I would give him another year, and a slightly reduced salary.

Agree. His resurgence has been massively overplayed. Jonny Evans has been better than him this season.

Evans has been pretty damn good when called of, especially at his age

Hindsight is great but we should have signed him when Leicester got him.

We are going to sell Casemiro Varane and Rashford and buy Solanke and Ross Barkley aren't we? 😂

I’m ok with those sales but I really hope the people Ineos employ bring in the right players.

Letting go of all three in same summer looks like a disaster to me unless we've got some players lined up who are both quality and have the experience we would need to replace.

Going to be tricky to achieve that with no CL football to offer as well.

I can see next season being another painful one for us sadly.

Casemiro has to go imo. He’s been very poor for a year and won’t get better. Losing him won’t affect us negatively.

As mentioned above I’d offer Varane one more year.

If we get a good offer for Rashford we should take and try to bring in a top RW.

There are gems out there for reasonable money. Not all City and Liverpool players cost a fortune. I just hope we will have the people to find them.

Depends on Varane himself really. I think his fitness is manageable if we're not playing him too much, but he'd need to accept being a squad player on reduced terms, because we really need some consistency back there and we can't afford to have a first choice CB who's fitness we have to manage so carefully. I assume he won't be so keen so it's best we part ways.

Other outgoings should probably be: AWB, Lindelof, Casemiro, Eriksen, Amrabat, Sancho, Martial (and Greenwood if he counts). I'd include Antony but don't think we'll get many takers. Rashford I wouldn't actively look to sell, but we shouldn't turn down a good offer.

An absolute hell of a lot of work to do to replace all that, but it is what it is. Its a list of players we really need to be doing away with this summer.
