Chest infection from hell so I've been bed bound all week and bored. How I've waited for the MT so that the waffling can commence.

I think it's CBT's opportunity next, I think we need to stick to the same formation and have ' the need for speed' up front with NML and CBT. I think their pace will cause the cobblers lots of problems and we've got Martyn ' miss a sitter' Waghorn to come on second half.

Expect to win this game but I don't expect an easy game.

Concerned about this game. 1972 we beat Leeds 2 0 to lead the old 1st division. Next game, a relatively easy home game against Newcastle we lost. 2014 we demolished Brighton in the playoffs, next game we fluffed our lines against a QPR team who ended the game with 10 men. Both games we were well on top and should have won. Fortunately in 1972 we had chance to make amends.

As long as we are not tentative and see this as a huge opportunity rather than a potential banana skin we should smash these Cobblers. Seize the day lads.

Or is it just that we lost a game after winning the previous one ? 🤔

Or is because the game was in 72 which is a multiple of 24, which is the year now and you multiple 24 by 3 to get 72 - and its 3 games we are looking at, so there is the link

The previous important games were won with excellent performances and followed by lack lustre performances. Did the players expend too much physically and emotionally so they couldn’t perform to their best in the next game. Thought it would be obvious to anyone.

Spart’s utterly irrelevant history based pessimism.

I’d imagine we’ve won some important games with lacklustre performances since 1972.

Those two games were very important to the club. Hence their significance. We don’t have that many important games where so much depends on the result. It is how the team reacts after a big win which is important. It’s not pessimism and not irrelevant.

They’re irrelevant because they have no bearing on this game. Warne is not going to be summoning up the spirit of 72 in his pre-match speech.

Lacklustre is a single word. Just saying.

If the game we lost v Newcastle the one I'm thinking of, was it played on Easter Monday, Spart?

It was Scouse. Macfarland playing with a bandaged head because Clough didn’t have any faith in Hennessy.

The defeat at Man City in the penultimate game felt much more devastating. Funny how it all worked out. I wonder though, if we had not won the league that season, would Clough have got quite so arrogant? Maybe not winning the league that season might have meant that the club and Clough would have progressed differently, and ultimately even more successfully. I wouldn't swap it for the world though..
