If that ship hits the Forth bridge I reckon it damages it very badly....probably buckles it out of shape & breaks off the nearest steel road stantion at best...at worst it brings half of it down...& that's substantially stronger than that meccano kit shat in Baltimore
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Which one - there's 3 of them!
That's why they mandate tugs.

Chances are it sinks the ship too...that thing in Baltimore probably scratched some paint off
It’s a decent bridge in Baltimore, unsure why so flippant

The Golden gate & Sydney Harbour and the two near me going over the Severn Estuary are "decent" bridges...that one in Baltimore is a fackin tinpot eyesore....
KNX News' Craig Fiegener spoke with Port of Long Beach Longshoreman Sean Coleman.
Coleman said that when cargo ships are taken out to sea or brought in, tugboats ensure that the ship stays on track and can maneuver around potential disasters.
"The tug helps steer the ship because the slower the ship goes, the harder it is to steer... So they don't have good steering going that slow in the harbor," said Coleman.
He's studied the video from Baltimore and said he did not see any tugboats.
"I don't understand. I don't know. Maybe it's because it was early in the morning, but usually it should be 24/7," Colman said, noting that both Long Beach and Los Angeles ports have tugboats available at all hours.

No..it's one that looks good & doesn't fall into the water in it's almost entirety if hit
This one is neither of these things...but it wasn't designed to be in fairness...so not a decent bridge
It was functional - until this week
Explosives. Nothing else could make it fall so easily.
That golden state bridge is falling down like a pack of cards if that happens boy
Silver is making the right points. I don’t know much about barge protocol but the cheseapeake bay is significantly bigger than long beach

The Skyway's dolphins are spec'd at 10knots but crucially for an EMPTY 87,000 DWt ship. Load it up and the spec drops to c.25,000DWt. So, talking bollix.
Page 120 if you are really interested.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Largely doesn’t help that the figure in Devon’s hilarious link is considerably less than the 117k tons that have been reported for the vessel
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Interesting stuff, thanks SiIver
And just to clarify, Edin (who i seem to trigger but he cant stop following me around. Bit weird!) I was responding to Sherrifs question of whether any bridge could with stand a hit from a ship one-third of the size (typical size when the bridge was built), about +30K ton
I think the Skyway example shows that it is certainly possible.
I would assume that these dolphins, which can withstand the impact at 10kn of a loaded 25k ton ship, means that the bridge itself is not damaged at that speed and weight.
But does it follow that a boat at 30k tons destroys the bridge? The dolphins will perform a function ranging from total protection to dissipating and deflecting actual impact on the bridge structure , as any crash barrier would.
The Key bridge looked to have no such protection so any impact from something way smaller probably would have had the same impact and it was just a matter of time.
Interesting to think what action now happens with all such vulnerable bridges because reports suggest retrospective protection could cost 100s of millions for each one
Follow you around? I was on this thread first the fack.

m8. You're a misery with little football knowledge so I largely ignore your ignorant negative rantings.
Do you like what i have to say? No? Great! Ignore me, or don't. Because I couldnt give 2 shiiits what my reputation is on some anonymous football forum.
I ignore a lot of what you post, because if I had to spend my day correcting everything hilariously wrong you say it would be a waste of all my time and energy.
But thank you for embarrassing yourself on another topic on another thread.
