Joe Gomez can cover all 4 defensive positions. Watch him not make the cut.

I don't rate Southgate at all.

Henderson and Phillips should be nowhere near an England squad

England just never get it right do they? Finally have a plethora of attacking talent, some world class, and put a conservative boring manager in place. A better manager would have beaten Italy, especially after taking the lead at home and Southgate should have been let go after that defeat. Instead he is picking the likes of Henderson and probably Phillips. Don’t be surprised when we fall short again. Southgate doesn’t have the minerals to use what he has.

Maddison will probably get a job as a pundit if he is left out. He loves the media side as well so he will be fine.

This!

He should be pencilling in his undroppables, take into account he probably aint changing a settled defence whatever he thinks his first pick is, then adding strength in the remaining, weaker areas that are more likely to call on subs.

OR

Find a formation and style that gets the most out of the area of strength in the squad and leverage it.

He won't.

posted on 28/3/24

Course he won't, he is on easy street. Average player and average manager.

Very lucky to be still in the job despite bottling it in the last Euros. He is perfect for the FA. Ticks every box for them. He is a puppet.

Midfield should be Bellingham , Rice and Maddison

With Saka, Foden and Kane up front

Mainoo looks great and I’d be tempted to play him instead of Maddison as he does offer something different and then play Bellingham further forward

We all now Southgate will not play either of those two options in midfield

I reckon Henderson will play

Maddison I think will be on the plane. There's no one else that can do what he can. He's the purest number 10 we have.

You also have to take into account flexibility. Players that can cover multiple roles mean not having to take two or three in one position, which frees up space elsewhere. That's why I think, injury permitting, Trent will be going because he can cover full back and midfield, plus Bowen too. He's can play in any of the the three front positions. Of the wide forwards available, only Rashford & Bowen offers the ability to play out wide and down the middle.

I think Madison though is one of the safest bets to go because there isn't anyone else like him.

Typical example of Spurs tunnel vision from a poster who is clueless.

Has he ever heard of Phil Foden ?

The problem is Southgate will always have two sitting, which leaves room for only one in the 10 position, which will be Bellingham. It's very conservative considering that we've probably got a midfield and forward line stronger than anyone else in the tournament. I'd like to see us play with one holding and two a little further up in midfield in Bellingham and Foden (both in a kind of 8 role) but it won't happen.

Foden to move to left wing?
with Maddison or Mainoo playing with Bellingham?
I would also swap out Stones or Maguire for TAA and play Walker centre back.

I put Grealish there as a placeholder because that position really is up for grabs. The problem is that Kane needs pace either side of him so it's not as suited to Foden to play out wide. That's why I'd prefer him in the middle in a free role.

It's Southgate. We know how he plays. It'll be Mainoo alongside Rice with Bellingham at 8/10. I'm just not sure you get the best out of Foden up top unless he's playing for a side like City who completely dominate possession.

I'd be shocked if Madders wasn't in the squad. But alot will also come down to end of season form too for those not straight on the team sheet (I. E Kane, Stones, Bellingham, Rice etc).

Mainoo really did well IMO and should be going. But Madders ticks a few boxes in terms of a few different positions he can play plus his set piece ability.

posted on 28/3/24

I think Maddison will go because he has the quality to unpick a defence, he’s also capable of playing on the wings if needed.

posted on 28/3/24

I am not sure about Mainoo starting at the Euros. Yes he did well in his first two “friendly” internationals but in the heat of a competitive tournament is it worth risking him to start?
As for Foden, he is a totally different player for City than he is for England. In both games against Brazil & Brazil he seemed a bit lost and ran into a lot of dead ends.
It might be different with Kane in the team, I certainly don’t think Toney or Watkins are going to replace Kane except if he is injured.
Grealish for me spends too long on his backside, yes he gets a lot of free kicks, but other than that he seems to have dropped off a bit at both City & England.

I will be extremely disappointed if either Henderson or Phillips get in ahead of Maddison. Phillips is not in my opinion a top class DM, whilst Henderson should only be coming on to help close up a game after 70 minutes, if he should be on at all.
Maddison is a very creative midfielder who complements Bellinghams abilities by being able to find him with passes that other players just don’t see during a game. An excellent example was the flick back with the outside of the boot to allow Bellingham to score the equaliser.

Just my opinions🤔👍

Exactly,it was Maddison who played the ball to Bellingham for him to score.

Best ball of the night was Lukaku to Tilly for their 2nd goal.

Maddison should 100% be on the plane but it wouldn’t hugely shock me to see Phillips or Hendo instead. Cannot stand Southgate.

What happened to Ward-Prowse by the way?

posted on 28/3/24

Unfortunately Maguire has the turning circle of a cruise liner and is certainly not the quickest CB around.
Stones is a quality player who has a very relaxed and calming style, which hides his athletic and energetic type of play. If you look at any top international CB they nearly all have the ability to look unhurried, but when needed they have the pace and ability to read the game, which in turn makes how they play look easy and comfortable. Sadly Maguire does not have that in his arsenal, although he is very strong at set pieces.

Another I would take is Bowen, he has been for me the one to stake the biggest claim for a seat on the aircraft, high energy and showed excellent ball control in tight situations. I certainly would not say no if he was offered to Spurs 🤔👍

With the rate of injuries this season I wouldn't be surprised to see the likes of the few big name players being ruled out.

Way to early to make accurate predictions.

Yep….can definitely see an injury or two before the end of this season ….just got to hope it’s not Rice, Kane, Saka or Bellingham

Luckily ones in Germany and the other in Spain

Kanes the one we really cant lose as the drop off to Watkins or Toney is huge
