Great player but had an uncharacteristic sloppy performance in possession yesterday - and even still he created our two best chances before the goal.
All people tend to see is goals and assists which is why you get a lot of bad takes regarding him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I see it completely opposite. I think his stats cover up for some pretty average displays this season - and last. You think he’s had a stinker but pops up with an assist or (very) occasional goal.
In fact, we talk about a “clearly talented” footballer (add him to the long list) who hasn’t actually put together more than 3 months of good work since he came. He’s definitely a good footballer on his day but maybe he’s not quite as good as his initial few months indicated. Lack of pace will always limit you in the Prem unfortunately.
Think he could be good cover for Madders and would like to see him play LW at some point too.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Thats a lot, and I'm surprised you think the stats cover up his average displays as I said I think the opposite.
The advanced metrics are considerably in his favour out of our forward line he is: highest in successful takeons, highest in progressive passes + 2nd in progressive carries, 2nd highest in progressive takeons.
He's 9th in the league for expected assists, 1st in the league for tackles in the opposition 3rd, top 5 in pressing actions, from a study conducted end of Jan I remember he was 2nd in distance covered in the league.
What he excels at often goes unnoticed.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Whatever the Stats...they are meaningless. His performance yesterday was a dismal failure.
Basically he seemed unable to make any successful pass into the opposing penalty area, everything went astray. His taking off at halftime (what are the stats on that?) and subbing by Johnson said it all.
I don't think AssieGlue will start him in the West Ham game. Something is obviously amiss with this player, and he needs a rest.

If you take total minutes played:
Kulu = 25.1 games (6 goals, 3 assists)
BJ = 14.7 games (4 goals, 7 assists)...was only a millimetre away from getting 5 goals yesterday.
For me it's so clear Kulu needs to do more.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
A lot of BJs impact has been from the bench and this is clearly effective
In recent weeks he has also played from the start but his.poorest games have also been when he has started.
Deki is a better possession player,.from deeper positions, retains it well, carries it well. It's just been his final ball that has diminished.
Lots of his assists in the past have been those great left foot cross to the back post but that's nongood with Son.
Bit sometimes, with Werner Son and BJ we lacknthat ball retention and guile on the edge of the area that Deki brings. Not helped by Werner being a bit hit and miss at times.

It's true that Kulu is better in possession than BJ overall and I appreciate that but much of his good stuff gets undermined by what he does when he gets into attacking positions, because unfortunately that is an important part of what that player should do. He's had some very good games this season and others he hasn't, which includes his possession play.
BJ is definitely useful coming off the bench and he may not be the answer as a starter either. All I know is we need better for the amount of time Kulu has played if we want to take us to the next level. He has to improve on his overall game and get back to more like he was in his first season or we should find someone else who will.
Ali gold made a great point that Kulusevski has created 52 chances this season for us which is by far the most and if they took even a quarter of them we’d be hailing him for it.
Some games it’ll require a Kulusevski type & sometimes it’ll require a Johnson type and it’s Anges job to get that right.
There was a stat a month or 2 ago about Deki having covered more ground than anyone in the league.
It would not surprise me if the lad is a bit jaded. I know we have not had much more than league games but perhaps it just goes to show that a lot of these high energy positions will be rotated constantly over a season with Deki & BJ used on a horses for courses basis.
What I do like is that Ange is not afraid to make early changes, and these have impacted positively on our game at time
