Graeme Dott reached 3 finals and won 1. At one point in 2010 he had reached the same amount of World finals as Ronnie and he's 2 years younger
I think even Ian McCulloch in 2004/05, I think he reached the Grand Prix final in 2004 where he got beaten by Ronnie who won his first Grand Prix Title back then.

Lol true, this was a comment I used to remember was used against Ronnie by Ronnie haters like WildJonesEye on the old 606 forums
Dott was a much better player than people gave him credit for. I don't think many folk have forgiven him for his final against Ebdon though - such a tough watch, if it went all the way, it would have been about 3 or 4am before it would finish.

Yes I think Dott was a very good player in his day, but the difference between his results throughout the season and his Crucible success seemed lop sided.
To be fair, he was World Number 2 at one point around the time of their being 6 tournaments and losing the tobacco sponsorship.
Jak wins the frame and leads 2-1. This isn't going to be easy for Judd as everyone thought.

Let's be honest if Judd is anywhere near his normal game, he should be winning by about 4 or 5 frames. But he could be slightly off, and Jones could have the match of his life. Can happen to anyone, even Ronnie.
Gilbert is easily beating Maguire at the moment. That half of the draw is so open…
93 break for Jones and he leads 3-1. Judd needs to respond after the mid session interval.
4-0 Gilbert... Morning of the underdog so far!

I do feel that Allen's recent default mode is to go too negative, rather than take the risk of a difficult pot. I guess we will never know what the position of the match would have been if he had been a bit more positive. But he could have ended up in the same position and ultimately he came up short - I was just shocked he lost in the way he did because he is such a tough hard player, but I guess pressure gets to us all.
I agree that for most players it is difficult to grind out a world title - the thing that surprises me is that Allen is such a good potter and break-builder, that I feel this change of tactics is slightly affecting his attacking game, so he looks ponderous and lacks rhythm at times when break-building. Perhaps he will realise this and tweak it accordingly.
=======================================
Yes I feel if Allen gets the balance right, he is well capable of winning a world title. I also thought he would get to the final this year.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
yeah I thought the final was going to be Allen v Ronnie/Trump, given the draw
Could be a 2020 rematch, or 2001!
Judd clears with 36 up to the pink and trails 3-2. Much needed as he was looking very edgy in that frame.
Jones missed a trick there, Judd off it atm, & this is Jones time... Judd won't miss as many again...
Now he can't pot a ball, & leaves Trump in.
Judd wins the frame and levels it at 3-3.
All flat tyre has to do is stay relatively close to Gilbert and Gilbert should struggle in the final session. But he can’t afford to be 7-1 behind.
