"I've got it down that I think if Jak Jones wins this Championship it will be not just the biggest shock in snooker of all time, but one of the biggest shocks in sport around the world ever," Murphy told the BBC.

I think it would be up there with Joe Johnson winning it........but it ain't gonna happen
Please God, I don't believe in you, but don't let it be Murphy commentating today.................
He's number 44 in the world though. Not like he's 440. He was a 1/4 finalist last year.
There's a guy won the Aussie Open tennis ranked 212. Raducanu won the USOpen ranked 150, in one of her first ever elite level tournaments.
Kim Clijsters won it without a world ranking at all.
In golf Ben Curtis won the Open ranked 396.
Leicester were 5000/1 to win the Premier League.
Japan hadn't won a world cup match in 20 years, but beat 2 times world champions South Africa.
Even Johnson had to beat Griffiths and in particular Davis, although your view on the comparison's interesting.
Agree on Murphy. He's a nice enough bloke, but it would be so much better without him.
He's a waffler, I've said many times, less is more, listen to the greats of yesteryear... Joe Johnson is another inane waffler too
Completely agree. Seems to think that the viewers have tuned in to hear someone talking incessant crap, rather than watch the snooker.
It seems to be the way the Beeb is going. They commentator they had for the Billie Jean Cup match recently spent the whole tie shouting like it was the football match highlights. Lots of people were saying the same thing that it was making it unwatchable.
Phil Studd seems to waffle a lot.

I have mentioned before what a crazy record Johnson has at the Crucible - winner, runner-up, and then only won one other match there!!!
Given there are considerably less snooker players, 44 in the snooker world is similar to outside the top 100 in tennis or golf I would say. I would agree that there are many examples of golfers who have won majors that are of a bigger upset, and Raducanu looks like a complete one-off atm (although none of the British media want to even consider that).
I think it makes a nice story if an outsider wins it, but as I have backed Wilson, I don't
But it's a typical OTT Murphy comment.
Jones needs a fast start.

Agreed..
Jones just isn’t as good as Wilson unfortunately and it’ll tell today
so unlucky off that opening red
64 break from Jones and Kyren needs 2 snookers. Let's hope there's not going to be any drama in this frame!
fantastic break.
I think the standard is very high.
This has the potential to be one of the greatest finals of all. It's terrific. Loving it.
Poor shot for the snooker.
Frame over and Jones trails 11-7.
flygate definitely broke Jones's focus there.
Another thing about the commentators is trying to make the audience laugh at key points
what would happen if they ripped the cloth?
That was a cracking shot.
Jones has been nothing short of superb these first 2 frames.
Had a little bit of run, but played great.
11-8, should be 10-9 after last nights final frame
59 break from Jones and he trails 11-8.
Loser Wilson... I've told you before about him! Makes for a great final
Jones won 8 of the last 12.
