Surely they both knew Palmer is the designated penalty taker?
Anyway they both ended up looking like a pair of clowns
I’m sure Poch put them straight afterwards
Embarrassing.
As Dele Alli pointed out, they weren't all arguing over taking a penalty against United in the 100th minute when the score was 3-3.
Kids they never like to share. They'll learn.
In another time and another game they could just go the other way and say the players have a lot of desire and ambition, and though some things should be sorted in the dressing room it's not a big deal and they're just human beings after all, or something like that.
Anywho, has Poch identified a designated taker? If so why the argument? Suggests he hasn't.
All the players involved should be benched for the next game

He hadn't but did after the Sterling incident but his statement then to me at least seemed more of a suggestion than a dictate. It's a dictate now, Palmers unless he chooses otherwise and no arguing.

Was just weird tbh and completely unnecessary. Palmer is going for top scorer, hasn't missed this season and is the pen taker, why on earth would he give it away.
Gallagher tried his best but I'd want my captain laying down the law at that point. Whatever you may think of them as individuals I can't really imagine captains like Terry or Kompany or Vieira or Keane standing for that nonsense.

All players of yesteryear. Is your point that we don't have leaders like that or that they don't really exist in the game anymore?
Shame as both had good games and they only increase the pressure on the penalty taker with their histrionics, it was like under 7's.

Yup it was incredibly childish. I struggled to believe I was looking at two grown men doing that. Really embarrassing.

Bit of both tbh Superb. I do think Chelsea lack a bit of leadership and organisation. Reece James/Conor Gallagher are relatively inexperienced to be captains/leaders.
But also, those players are quite rare these days. If you look at the captains of the big teams at the moment - KdB, Odegaard, VVD, Son, Fernandes - they're all 'lead by example' types with the possible exception of VVD.
Guess it’s just me who thought Sky/ media wanted another headline and blew the whole incident out of proportion. A bit silly from the players maybe, but no one cheated, dived, spat at or hurt another player - it wasn’t that bad. Big deal, move on, nothing to see here. It’s not as if it was a dull game with nothing else to talk about
Agreed with Bamideli, let’s see the players do that when it’s a crucial penalty

MP should have sorted it after the Sterling incident then last night doesn't happen.
=====
Exactly. Why isn't this falling on the manager? Players want to take a penalty, shock horror. If there's no clear direction from the manager then a dispute among players may or may not arise. Perhaps the manager wants to see who has the tekkers to step forward. Or wants the players to arrive at designated taker by themselves?
Sometime it's like there's rules over what people should or shouldn't be offended with. There's more valid things to be overly concerned about but that's just my opinion.

Not sure you can blame Poch here, Palmer is the pen taker and the other two wanted in on the action.
It's very, very rare that I agree with Boris but he's right earlier in this thread; all very well them being billy-big-bollox when you're 4-0 up and the game won but they weren't rushing to get the ball off Palmer in the 98th minute against Utd when the pressure was on.
Chelsea fans have said Poch has not designated a pen taker? How do you know it's Palmer?

A couple or so in this thread. Perhaps you know better?
It's also common sense. I don't see how that argument happens if the manager has already stated that Palmer is the designated.

Yeah I don't think that traditional vocal captain really exists anymore. Tony Adams was another good one.
But yeah we're glaringly lacking leaders as a group.

I don't claim to know better. Poch stated in the post match interview that Palmer is the pen taker unless he gives it to someone else to take for whatever reason. And Palmer has been taking pens for months apart from that other silly incident where Sterling snatched one off him and missed.
