And breathe
That was a really tough game tonight mentally and physically. If Middlesbrough put that effort in every week they would have been comfortably in the play offs.
Every player put a shift in tonight, they had too, but particular kudos to Summerville and Gray who are simply a class above.
Not sure if this is true but apparently we have beaten every team who have had more possession than us this season. A lesson to learn perhaps.
Onwards to London where it will be another physical and mental battle on a very small pitch which does not suit our style.
Glad to see the back of Latte Lath, 4 goals against us and only 13 for the season. Poor performance, midfield weak as kittens…hopefully a win at QPR will prove to be enough!
Expected an attacking game as Boro needed to win and win well to maintain slim playoff hopes. Got exactly that I wanted and I thought Leeds were a fair bit better than Boro on the night.
Looks at the goals
Boro1 - lucky deflection and then squirms out for tap in
Boro2 - expect keeper to save that 90-odd times from 100
Boro3 - lost our shape with subs and were playing 5 metres too high at the time of the pass. Lacked a leader to organise this on the field.
Want else did boro offer other than possession and crosses?
We scored 4, Bamford had a good chance saved. James should have got a shot away at 4-2. Obviously one was offside but must felt we created the better chances overall.
Summerville motm.
Thought Bamford was very very good
Rutter jekyl and Hyde
Gnonto worked so hard both ends
The commentator on my feed summed this game up
for me, when he said "this game's beautifully chaotic."
Summerville, Bamford, Gnonto, and Rodon were very good IMO. Meslier was not.
QPR could be a banana skin if we're not careful. After
tonight though I feel more positive.
Good summary, Jonty, surely that is our toughest fixture out of the way. I thought the second half performance up to their goal was one of our most impressive of the season, we held them at arm's length quite comfortably and we had two very presentable chances which could have made it a lot easier on the nerves. However, a lapse of concentration at the end coupled with a sublime finish from Latte Lath gave us the frantic ending we are all so used to.
We have injury concerns going into Friday's fixture at QPR, but surely it can't be as tough as tonight's match? If we show the same courage and single-mindedness, we should have enough to take three points. We dug deep tonight and showed terrific character to defeat a very dangerous opponent.
Technically it was 3 all but for once the officials inadvertently gave us something.
Difficult to sum up that rollercoaster, and I was convinced they would equalise.
Paddy played really well last night, Summerville was immense, Wilf really worked hard both ends and Georgie showed bursts of brilliance but still looks not quite up to speed.
Archie going forward looked class but him and Gruev were not the answer in the middle.
Their goals were all poor from our defensive point of view. How is it Lath has only scored 13 goals this season playing like that?
Firpo scares me defensively, he definitely has a blind spot with wingers getting behind him. Going forward is a different story.
We looked more controlled when Boro had possession in the second half.
Meslier - not sure what to say, hearing a lot of criticism but Lath's goals were fabulous finishes and the defensive lapses were evident in both.
Finally, we put ourselves under unnecessary pressure as I feel we should have been 5 or 6 - 2 up before they made it uncomfortable.

I totally agree with everything that you put here.
Would add two things our defence from being rock solid and impenetrable has suddenly become very porous. Not sure the shift of Gray from right back to centre mid and Kamara to the bench is working.
Secondly, despite all the possession in the second half, until Farke made all those changes, Boro created very little and we were looking far more dangerous. I would question whether wholesale changes were really necessary in a game we were comfortable.
Gray tackled, drove forwards, kept moves going, thought he was really good AND made it look effortless.
I really don't like to pick on a player but thought everyone gave real effort except Gruev and I really struggle to see what he offers.
He doesn't get stuck in, he positions himself away from opponents when they have the ball yet closer to them when we have the ball, he loses his man in midfield and he is slower than AndDonRevie.
Watch the first goal back, he gets completely lost by opponents who then provides ball into box which ironically Gruev deflects, if he haunts there is no goal.
I think for second goal he gets drawn out to edge of box, doesnt put in any tackle lair runs away and scores.
I can genuinely only recall one tackle and pass from him all match.
Even Firpo for all his defensive issues, got vital headers in, crossed for Bamford etc.
Apparently half the team were playing with a virus, which makes that performance outstanding.Firpo admitted he was almost sick on the pitch in the second half.
Just a word on Bamford, the lad gets a lot of stick from some of our fans but we play far better when he is in the team.

There is one going around, that is incredible performance if they've been suffering from it too.
Agree on Bamford, he presses, tackles, defends, links up and if you watch his goal, you see Rutter go too early, Bamford times it just right, he knows what he is doing, give gin better service, he's score a lot more, plus, he's a team player, no hassles with letting Summerville take the penalty.
Bamford doesnt get much stick at games.
Think about why that is
I'm not sure what Bamford was doing when he got that goal, but whatever it was, he should try it every time!..

It was just Bamford doing what he does best…being in an offside position
Now come on, Germany and Real, inconsistent as he is, Bamford put in a shift last night. His movement was a constant problem for the Boro defence and allowed Gnonto and Cree to do a lot of damage. He got his goal and was unlucky not to get a second. I would be happy to see this version of Bamford start our next two games. If ever a player needed a redemption arc, it is him.
heart, I'm only saying because people always have a crack at him whatever it was he did last night, it might be a good thing for him to keep it going!..
Agreed, let’s hope he’s got some more in the bottle for our next couple of games. With Leicester now out of sight, we need him to be onto it more than ever.
