Evening/ Morning Chicago!
Hope your weekend celebrations were merry and you've not too sore a head.
GK - I'm not 100% convinced that Wildsmith will be staying. He was offered a new contract and declined ( allegedly) which resulted in him being dropped. His performances could well mean a Championship club coming in for him as back up or if a big Champ club does go down Brum, Huddersfield etc they'd no doubt be interested in his services.
We certainly need someone better with their kicking abilities and the weekend commentary reflected on a GK that could pass and be used as the 11th man / pass it around which appears to be what several clubs in the Championship appear to do and as a result are successful in the division. Easier said to find a GK with a strong passing range and be a good shot stopper.
Wing backs - with Wilson and Ward capable of playing the role at RWB, Nyambe would be considered RB ( four man defence) or a CB option when playing three at the back. If Bradley signed a one year contact I don't think he'd be capable of performing at Champ level and would need to be replaced. I had a scan through Champ defenders coming out of contract and there's a few names that could be considered.
LWB - Elder has disappointed due to injuries, I expected so much more from him and hope he has a better campaign. Regarding the enigma that is Louise Sibley LWB is certainly a position he offers more consistency in than further up front. Yes to him being offered new contract, however as an Academy player who has seen several Academy players move on to better clubs during our relegation season will he sign?
He's seen Knight go and Bird to move on, would it be a surprise to see Bristol City try and poach him too? Or another mid table club with the finances to offer him a lucrative contract.
Central midfield is going to be key and requires a lot of consideration who to retain and let leave. Fornah started off well but is no longer considered. Will he move on, on loan? Will Thompson consider signing a contract extension or opt to find better opportunities elsewhere ( League 1 would most likely be his best port of call if he did leave )
I mentioned Will Vaulks on the other MT , he is getting but having played his best football for PW, aware of his systems and what would be required of him he could be the replacement for Smith.
Adams is of course important but I wouldn't want Derby to be held to ransom for him. In my eyes he's our future captain and it's be wonderful for him to return but not for an extortionate transfer fee. Given the notice from.rhe fans and how successful he's been if we've not agreed a deal before hand Cardiff will look to play hardball.

Chicago, consider yourself told off by Sir.
Suitably chastened, I've retreated into my shell, Scouse. Head not sore, Desi - just buzzing!
Hmmmm.... one to ponder. Do we go up and consolidate...or as Ipswich have done - challenge at the top ??? I feel it won't be the latter.
So, that said I think there needs to be quite a bit of change. RB we seem well stocked and I think that Fozzie may well stay as cover for LB or CB.
Midfield we are light and need to have 2 or 3 incomings and I can't see Hourihane staying. Front line too as Waggy will go. Gayle not sure, nor JJ. Depends on pay as you play maybe. Collo yes, he keeps himself in good nick and always gives 100%. Barks not sure either. A bit inconsistent for me.
Fact is Warney wants to lower to average age of the squad and wants athletes. I think we'll see more of CBT and Fornah after preseason...which is only just round the corner eh
Listening to RD last night the panel thought Collins and Barks would be offered new deals. Some players have an automatic renewal contract. Collins it was suggested should be offered a 1 year contract the question posed was whether he'd accept that and to be a squad player.
According to Steele we'll be after a new keeper with Wildsmith declining a contract extension.
In defence we do need back up. Bradley at Champship level playing on a regular basis was questioned and most agreed he wouldn't be able to do it. So we've Nelson and Cashin with Rooney to return from injury. If Fozzy isn't kept on we certainly need minimum two defenders.
Right back we're covered as you say Terry. Left back it was suggested we need better. Elder managed all of ten games last season and with Sibley not a defensive LB we need an improvement in that area.
The other two questions posed were what system will PW play and the need for players that can play out of possession football.
Those at the top of the division require possession playing footballers and those towards the bottom out of possession footballers. Never given that much thought before.
The points raised were athletic, strong runners with an emphasis on robust. Given our injuries last season that's one area we definitely need to focus on for recruitment. Strong, capable of playing 2-3 times a week.
The main targets for this division are a CF ( no surprise) along with a solid 6 and 8 in midfield.
Our age range definitely needs to come down which is why minus Collins and Barks I think our players over 30
Fozzy (35)
Waghorn (34)
Hourihane ( 33)
Bradley (32)
Smith (33)
are likely to leave to free up wages for you and get better players.
I have been thinking out of the teams in the play off pack who don't win the holy grail at Wembley who has players to possibly poach and within our price range? What about lower down the division?
Do we try to get Alfie May from Charlton? Given how many he scored and played alongside CBT it could certainly help the latter.
Peterborough's Harrison Burrows (LB) had a good season with 14 assists and with his contract coming to an end could he be an ideal option for the LB position?
Ronnie Edwards is highly thought of (CB) 22, and with one year left could be an option for Derby. He had been linked with several Championship sides so may be difficult to lure with the salaries offered elsewhere.
A player mentioned in the transfer news recently Bosun Lawal who plays as a CB / DM for Fleetwood on loan from Celtic. Drafted into midfield since Charlie Adams took he's shown strong ball winning, aerial and box to box abilities. Managing 6 goals and playing an impressive 42 matches he's certainly an athletic
The good thing about not being in the playoffs is we can get to work on our targets stealing a march on those still battling what division they'll be in next season.
Offer contracts to those we want to keep and look at UK market and ideally Europe. Have I mentioned we should consider German players?
The one masterstroke that PW could play for next season ( more for the heartstrings) is finding a Croatian rough diamond. A playmaker in the Asanovic mould or the rock at the back Stimac. With Stimac recently a guest at Derby we could lean into him for Eastern European suggestions.
We've certainly done well with our African internationals ( Nyambe and Adams) and if we can add another two or three for the new season that'll be a fantastic achievement.
Cardiff allegedly want £500 for Ebou Adams

In fact, forget that, I'll stump up all of it.
Ah heck. Put me down for £100.
Almost ours!
If Pboro fail then I would certainly go for Burrows and possibly Randall, a classy midfielder. If Bolton fail they also have a classy midfielder whose name I forget (Sheehan?)
PS Terry and Jorvik should become our Spanish scouts.
They'll just keep promoting that San Miguel fella

We're a hour from Almería & me & my mate are planning a trip there next season 👍🏼
There's a football pitch we can see from our terrace... I'll keep an eye open guys...🇪🇸
My bedroom used to overlook Biggin football field.
I'm not sure any of the local lads would have made the Derby side in the 70's though, particularly after a skinfull in the Waterloo Friday night.

And a left back (give Fozzy another year though). It will be an interesting few weeks seeing who leaves and who comes in. As Warne says, no matter what comes afterwards these players have been part of something special at Derby and we won't forget all those who played their part.
I might nip out to the Year 10s in a Tuesday, after school, on the AWP
