Yes, a good defensive coach and work on set pieces too.

Set pieces are a huge problem

Really hoping Ange’s arrogance doesn’t do for him.

I think it will. Remember after the Chelsea game he said “we’d do the same if we’re down to 5 men, mate”. I kind of admire how much he believes in his system, I’m just not sure it can work in the PL

Watches your game yesterday and it is obvious you hqve very aimilar weaknesses as lfc. Rubbish defending set pieces and gettinf done on lofted balls on the wings. It's the price you have to pay for all out attacking. To win the big prizes there has to be Steel in defence. Not sure if Ange can do it but next season we will see if he adapts.

It’s been like this for 23 games now. If he was gonna adapt he’d have done it already. But maybe he’ll look at adapting the style over the summer. Here’s hoping

Sakas goal we still had a 2 v 1 situation and a 6 v 2 on the broader picture.

If Davies didn’t let him on his left which is sakas only move we’d been fine.

posted on 29/4/24

The goals we concede are honestly school level. I don't mean the corners, I mean time and time again being caught out 1 on 1 or striker just having a defenders to beat with our defence running back. That just isn't good enough at the level.

No issues with a high line but you need to press the better further up the pitch for it to work. You also can't do it with 2 CBs and no one in LB or RB as that space is exposed.

It's criminal how we defend. Ange has VDV and Romero who are quality players yet his set up means we guarantee to ship goals. Clean sheets? Forget those, we are awful and it's concerning Ange doesn't seem to work on it or have a plan. What is the plan? What is it Ange constantly coaches. Because whatever it is, it's making us worse - not better.

Davies we sprinting back and Saka used Davies running back towards his own goal as a tool to cut in and it meant Davies had to completely reverse his run.

No way was that goal on Davies. It's on Ange all day long.

Try sprinting on one direction and then needing to stop and go the other way. It's momentum that stops you doing it quickly.

If Ange didn't have is defending like kids then Davies isn't in that position.. Isn't Ange's job to coach the team in those situations if that's what he insists on?

I blame Ange, you can blame Davies. Difference of opinion doesn't hurt anyone.

Ange finished mid-table in his first season in Japan, mainly due to leaking cheap goals. The team scored plenty but were weak at the back and paid for it. The next season he ironed out the problems and won the league, he needs more players in better suited to his system.

He deserves next season, if we do not improve then it goes without saying he will be gone. Our current midfield and front players are not good enough for the system right now.

Every top club have their defending that high. We had the ball over by the arsenal 6 yard box where we should’ve had a pen.

Davies over committed and facked up. We had a 2 on 1 all he needed to do was show him down the line. Amateur by him

Ange is not a stupid man. He knows what needs to be done. I just hope he has the ability in this league, and that he gets the players to do it

Davies didn't see Saka until late, hence why he was playing catch up. You could argue Micky could have helped him with speed once Saka cut in on his left but he was looking over his shoulder at other Woowich player.

No point over analysing that particular goal- we’ve seen similar so many times and the sheer number we concede, it’s obvious to anyone it’s more on the tactics than the players
Romero and VDV are close to world class

How can it be the players?? This happens wether it’s vdv, Romero, drag, doggie, Emerson, Porro…..etc etc
It’s clearly the defensive tactics are all wrong

Have a look at Davies again for goal. Ball watching.

There were lots of things that got right up my rathole about yesterdays performance but top of the list (by far) was the ease with which they got 3 up.

Had they come to our back yard and played us off the park I could have begrudgingly lived with it but the fact they barely got out of 2nd gear and didn't play well at all yet still walked away with the points is totally unacceptable.

Are we actually working on how to defend set pieces?

As a side issue another perfectly good goal ruled out by VAR, there is no way that punishing attacking footie is the right way forward. I had hoped the Coventry toe nail offside would lead to more of an outcry about this but unfortunately it looks like it won't change going into next season.

If it's so close that they feel the need to draw lines then it's onside. The wait for the decision is not what the spontaneity of sport is all about.
