Midfield for me.

We need to recruit a top Championship level,
left sided/left footed CB in the summer if we
don't go up. And hope that we can somehow
convince Rodon to sign.

I also see him in midfield.

I also like Jonty's idea of pushing Firpo further forward, the left back experiment has clearly failed and we need a proper left back next season.

I still don't know what the midfield might look like with Firpo playing further forward.

Batty, isn't Pascal our left footed CB? If we can sign Rodon, get rid of Farke and get a manager in who invests in Cresswell, I think CB wise we will be OK.

Would have been interesting to see how we’d have done with Struijk in for the full season. He was better this season, but he’s just not commanding enough. Maybe would have got better as the season went on.

Rodon should be possible. I don’t think a PL team signs him as he’s not done a thing there and a year left on his contract, the price won’t be too high. He needs to rebuild his career after 4 years wasted, this is the most he’s ever played

I think Flemming was player of the year at Millwall in 22/23.

I have seen a poll where Kalvin Phillips has been voted player of the year at West Ham this year, it may be we are looking at different votes. I am sure the KP one is heavily influenced by Leeds fans voting for him.

Maybe I’ve dreamt that, I’m sure I read somewhere he was their player of the year.

amps without doubt is a real midfielder, for just in front of the back 4 dictating, however we need midfield dictator / maestro

For me he is a better centre half than he is a midfielder.
Skill set for a midfielder is limited. He is mobile can head, tackle and pass short distances but his passing range is below average and his shooting non existent. Would be interesting to see him playing in midfield with a Gary McAlliseter type player and I may change my mind but clearly we haven’t got one at elland road at present

As for Firpo I would honestly try and model him into a left centre back. He is good in the air and his build and turning circle are more like a centre back than a full back. He will never be a top left back and he couldn’t be played as a left winger - he is naturally better at attacking from deep. Players have moved positions before with success.

Ampadu did OK as a CB before the international break although he is not really tall enough in my opinion. I liked him more in midfield before he had to drop into CB with Pascal getting injured.

As has been said many times on here we seem to always be playing people out of their natural positions, RB playing LB, CM playing RB, CM playing CB so called "square pegging". It has cost us so many times.

Since the international break Ampadu and the other Welsh lads look like broken men and nowhere near the level they were at before that devastating loss in their play off.

We can only hope and pray they can rally for these hopefully 3 games left but at the moment their confidence looks shot.

You’d drop Sommerville for Firpo ?

You honestly cant be serious pal.

He cant defend has it is, he’d give more pens away and barely play becaused he’d be constantly sent off.

Why not just sign a good left back and centre half 🤷🏻‍♂️

Don't think I mentioned Summerville (for god's sake cannot how difficult is it to learn how to spell the guy's name right, it's one letter and it stares out at you from the programme every week) but not sure he will be around next season and we will need a replacement though I am not sure Firpo is that guy.
No, it was mentioned by Jonty as an option last week, pushing Firpo forward into left midfield as a solution rather than selling him. Still unclear how he felt it would work.

So if sommerville leaves, you’d replace him on the wing with Firpo ?

Makes more tackles per game and gives away less fouls than Ampadu, just checked the stats. Don't think he'd make a great CB but there's no reason to suggest he would be giving away a lot of penalties or being sent off constantly.

As we have nobody at the club called Sommerville it's an irrelevant question.

Tbh, with Firpo, I really don’t think it’s a priority to replace him this season unless we go up.Has left back really been a massive issue this year? Last two seasons, yes but this year it hasn’t. Byram and Firpo overall been fine, if it’s championship again, unless the right player is available, we don't need a left back

Firpo has had a few bad games this year, but overall he’s been fine. Similar to Alioski really in his last year - he was good going forward, had some poor games defensively but overall it wasn’t a massive issue over the season.

He’s decent bringing the ball out of defence, I don’t think his passing is that bad. Thinking to that assist for Rutter against Swansea, I think he’s got the ability for better passing if he’s further forward, something Gruev doesn’t offer

I think Cresswell having only 7 minutes in 2024 is poor management from Farke, he got player of the year at 7th place Millwall last year, he definitely could have contributed something this season.

I agree! 4 goals in 28 appearances for Millwall, 150+ corners since we scored directly from one. I don’t think it’s ability keeping him out of the team.

Oh 100% agree. I was more thinking of a desperate measure given he cost us £12m and we haven’t had anywhere near value for money. I don’t see him as a left back or left midfielder.
