Man Utd vs. Arsenal reflections

It is funny Arsenal won due to a Casemiro howler and defend for most of the game and they talk like Arsenal played well when they were lucky to win.

It was a nervy performance against an unpredictable opponent in front of 73,000 with the world watching, just one to survive and win, job done.

With a proper centre back pairing, shaw, Bruno, Rashford dare I say Mount etc it could have been a very testing afternoon but it was as it was.

Nobody could say yesterday we didn’t try to win even though it would have given City the title and by the same mark Spurs won’t roll over for City either it be a lot closer than you think.

Anyway all the best and hope it comes your way.

We didn't play well, but that's because we didn't have to.

I said before the game we will be very cautious in our approach.

I like Arteta versatility. He knows united play one way, which is counterattack.

He adjusted things at the emirates game also

lucky to win?. You had no shots on target (Casemiro's 50 yard shot and Antony's passing shot don't count). Sign of champions is winning when not playing well

Yea, it's always been a bit of a nonsense idea... These players are pros, most have no real association to their clubs and they have been conditioned to do everything to get a result from the age of about 6-7 years old.

Anyway, good luck Arsenal... I think you've played some great football throughout the season and hope you win.

It's not about shots on target. We dominated but just couldn't find the target so doesn't show up in shots on goal or expected goals. A better stat is expected-expected goals so xxG which would should how many goals we would have scored if our shots had found the target and ended up where they SHOULD have gone and would have shown how dominant we actually were over Arsenal and that we SHOULD have won. Not our fault our best finishers were out injured. We were still the better team.

No it is a much better reflection of a team's dominance. Arsenal basically ran about doing nothing. We actually created lots of opportunities just couldn't produce the final product due to injuries and the ref incorrectly stopping play. xxG is a far better reflection of how the game went but Arsenal fans will just ignore the facts and stats to suit their own agenda.

Yes, but you have to also take into account the xxG is they had moved out of first gear.

SG+xxG is the real stat.

Levy, Postecoglu and the players want to win, it's the fans that don't want them to win which will make it difficult because they won't be behind their players.

Even though Man Utd did not have anything to play for their fans still wanted to win the game, Spurs still has top 4 to play for, that's the difference with the two clubs.

Spurs existence is based on how bad Arsenal does instead of them improving as a club (the bigger picture), it's hard for them but it's not as if they haven't seen us win a title before

posted on 13/5/24

City will batter Spurs regardless.

posted on 13/5/24

To be fair to Spurs, they are really bad at winning when they are trying to win, so wouldn't put it past them to mess up losing when they are trying to lose.

City will pummel spurs but fair play to Arsenal.

We had the hardest run in out of the top 3 and we have taken it to the final day

People will talk about Arsenal's overall record at OT, but this season, pretty much everyone has come to OT with a good chance, so was expecting a comfortable Arsenal win, and even though only 0-1, it was still comfortable.

Arsenal played with the pressure of having to win, they were pretty average, and played worse than say, the game they lost to Villa, but Utd were so poor it was embarrassing.
At 0-1, it was almost that rather than give it a real go, we were more mindful of not conceding a hatful.
One of the dullest Utd-Arsenal games in a long time, we never looked like scoring.

Ye can't disagree with that. That's the poorest we've been this year I would say, but I'd have hoped if we did concede we could have gone up a gear. Reminded me of a Soccer Aid game.

Nervy win. Thomas Partey set the tone by setting Garnacho for a good chance. Lucky he fell over. Up until then the ball was in Utds box and the crowd were quiet. That really livened both the crowd and players.

Arsenal chose to defend most of the game. Arteta often sets up to do that away from home after we take the lead. Man Utd didn't push Arsenal back.

posted on 13/5/24

I say lucky as Casemiro gifted you the winning goal.

posted on 13/5/24

Arsenal would have found a way to score because they needed to stay on the front foot till that happened. The only time Arteta has set up for a draw was against City at the Etihad. Judging by how Utd have defended recently, I highly doubt you could have kept us out. Arteta has taken what he learnt with Pep and combined it with Moyes techniques of destroying games. It's quite unique and very difficult to combat. Which is why we have taken 4 points of both Liverpool and City.

We should have 4 points against Liverpool but Taylor gave a pen for a swan dive.
