Pretty obvious thing to say but we need to start next season like we started last season, (50 points from 57) and end it like we are ending this one (49 points from 57 if we beat Everton).

When Liverpool won the league, they got off to a good start and maintained that level until City realised they weren’t going to catch them and started dropping off.

If you give City a chance in the run in, they are just going to keep winning, it’s a simple as that.

Teams need to be hitting at least 2ppg to get top 4 nowadays. Yet we keep hearing how the standards of the PL is lower than in the past.

Yes definitely Bats, merging the two together is going to be theme.
The club in last few seasons has been united from top to bottom and it shows. Between Wenger and Gazidis and then Emery and the multiple people above him, it was a bit messy.

67 this season. Pretty much the level it has been in PL history.
But you could argue the top 2 getting so many points suggests the general standard of the league has fallen.

Liverpool won 26 out of their first 27 games. 79 points from 81 available. For context, they are on 79 points now with 1 game to go. Leicester won the league with 81 points. That’s basically the sort of run you need to go on to beat City to the title, although what Liverpool did was probably a bit overkill

Next season we need 100 points to have any chance of beating City to the title.

Liverpool once got 97 pts but City got more

I don’t see Arsenal getting more than 90 points. The only way City don’t win the league is if they have an off year like they did when we won it.

Why not? Win tomorrow and we would only be 1 short. We had a stinker of a December in our first season with CL football for a long time and Artetas first as a manager.

You’ll always be at least 1 short, that’s the issue. Unless they are having a down year which has only happened once in 8 years, nobody can pip them.

Everything ends at some time. People were talking about Liverpool like that in the 80s then 30 years without a title. People were talking about United like that in the 90s.

And Arsenal took titles off both

You won’t win the league while Pep is at City. The fortunate thing for Arsenal is that I don’t think he’ll be there that long.

I also see one of Saliba or Gabriel leaving to Madrid at some point.

We are showing clear progress year on year. Everyone said we would struggle for top 4 last season, came second. Everyone said we would not be able to challenge this season and fall back into the crowd - we could still mathematically win it going into the last game.

Ok, you’ll get 100 points next year and win the league, despite the fact the chances of you having the luck you’ve had all season repeating is tiny.

Couple injuries in that defence and there’s no way you keep pace with City. You’re a superb side, as good as Liverpool have been under Klopp, but you’re not City.

Nobody is saying we will get 100 points next season. You’ve moved the goalposts, earlier you said we wouldn’t get 90 points.

Not sure what amazing luck we have had?
Our summer signing being injured 55 minutes into the season and not playing since? Of our starting back 4 from game 1 we lost half of it within 3 weeks! A couple of injuries in that defence and we did keep pace...
TWO games where we have conceded after the ball went out of play but there not being any VAR cameras to see?
Our first choice striker missing the start of the season?
Non red cards for clear red offences for the likes of Kovacic?


I mean, we could certainly do without that luck next season.

I personally think this Arsenal side is like Liverpool 21/22. They had the chance to go to the etihad and win but were too negative and are gonna miss out again.

I said to my friend the other day, you can clearly split last 2 seasons in half.

21/22: Amazing 1st half, 2nd half crap
22/22: OK 1st half, amazing 2nd half.

If we're looking for inspiration, we can look at the Invincibles. 01/02 double winning team went unbeaten away from home, 02/03 went unbeaten at home. 03/04 put it all together.

Arteta has to find a way to do similar here.

Aside from Timber and Partey you’ve had no other significant losses to injury.

We’ve had Salah, Jota, Alisson, Matip, Robertson, Trent, Szoboszlai, Thiago, Jones all with multiple game absences. Same story at almost every club in the league aside from Arsenal.

Through injury:
Jesus has missed 16 games.
Zinchenko has missed 8 games.
Tomiyasu has missed 13 games.
Smith Rowe has missed 10 games.
Vieira has missed 20 games.

All significant losses.

Maybe we've just got a really good physio department and that's why we haven't had as many injuries. If your getting a load of injuries there's a reason for that either your medical department isn't very good or its a result of the style of play Klopp plays it requires a lot in terms of intensity. Alot of your players have a lot of miles on the clock. Either way you can blame the odd injury on bad luck but not more than that there must be reasons for it.

Think a lot of it is about buying players at the age range where physical health is at its peak. Past the "growing pains" stage and before the "time takes its toll" stage.

Funny, though, that O'Driscoll left and our injury list shortened while Man Utd seem to be suffering a crisi

The intense training sessions also help the players avoid injuries. They are now used to replicating that intensity from training into games. That does however result in runs of fatigue when the fixtures pile up.

Man City will pretend that their cheating was years ago, but that has helped them build a squad that is still bearing fruit today.

This is what we have to replicate so we can rotate and still keep that intensity on the pitch that marks out the Pep/Arteta system.
