You just don't know until they are in job. There is no magic formula to choosing a manager. I think we were all pleased with the choice of ETH, but it hasn't turned out well. Most of the time it will probably not turn out well, that's just football.
It can be hard to follow a manager who has had success, but will just need to wait and see

Liverpool are in for a bumpy ride but they won't regress as badly as we did. Their club is far better than than ours was/is under the parasites. All we can hope is INEOS are going to right a lot of their wrongs over next 2-3 years.

Who knows man. I think if he comes in and keeps us in the top 4 id take that for a 1st season in a new league. There arent many who have come into the premier league for the 1st time and absolutely tore it up from the off. Mourinho ancellotti and conte only 1s that spring to mind for me. Fack even pep took a season to adjust.

Theres a decent enough squad there that with a couple of additions should see us still competitive. If we are dropping out top 4 (or 5 as it may be next season) then its been a bit of a disaster really.

Can’t really say much other than that?
Coaches and players from Netherlands are a massive gamble. Rarely do coaches do well, and players only fare slightly better.
Liverpool could have another ETH or if the recruitment has been done correctly, then they could actually have a suitable replacement.

A bit different. They have a younger squad and have probably picked a more suitable manager. Plus they probably won't make Felleini their only summer signing.

If we're being honest, I don't ans can't see the bumpy ride. They've clearly done their homework on how not to chit the bed like us by watching us as they chit the bed 30 years ago.

Klopp has left a squad that's in good condition compared our ageing lads.

Did SAF really leave that old a team?

De Gea, Smalling, Jones, Valencia, Young, Rafael, Cleverley, Anderson, Welbeck, Nani were still quite young and had won the league the previous season. Also had Janujaz coming through. We did have Vidic, Ferdinand, Evra to eventually move in soon but Liverpool will have VVD, Matip etc too..

Up front we had RVP after the season of his life so should have hoped for one or two more.

Had we recruited sensibly whilst on top we should still have been ok IMO.

Fair points Diafol. But I guess the quality is the question.

Smalling and Jones were tipped to have bright futures for example, much like Liverpool's current crop. Their fans will hope Slot manages them well.

The main thing that United team needed, in that season IMO, was a midfield refresh. Something SAF had failed to do for years. Two high quality players. I think a more high profile manager, in that time, gets someone like a Kroos or Fabregas. Gundogan, Modric, Vidal etc may have been available then too.

The season after winning the league was an epic failure on so many levels.

Liverpool, have a good team still, maybe a couple of additions and they are good to go... but he might have a bit of turbulence implementing his philosophy, which is to be expected.
But I don’t expect a major fall off from them.

But with the two most successful clubs, expectations are high, and not a lot of time is given before the hounds start howling.

With UTD, the damage done by the Glazers and Ed Woodward is off the scale. Liverpool were accused of standing still in the 90s... but it’s nothing like UTDs.
And what I can’t stand is the spin game and Jedi mind tricks, which we ain’t falling for.
I do hope Ineos and Sir Jim can bring change, but
The Glazers are still in power, and they need to be gone.

From what I’ve read about Slot, I’d say the club have gone for someone in the same mould as Klopp without trying to ‘clone’ him. He’s done well to compete with the traditional Eredivisie powerhouses, has improved players and seems a very popular figure at the club.

The club have recruited well behind the scenes and I believe Slot is purely going to be a coach which should take a lot of pressure off him. Even if he doesn’t work out I don’t think the club can be overly criticised as on paper they’ve possibly got the best available coach for the job.

I don’t know anything about the new Liverpool manager but I knew all I needed to know about Moyes to know he was the wrong man for the job.

Jose should have been the one to replace SAF.

……..

That first window under Moyes should have told us all of the bad things to come. Paying way over the top for the Grootster.

Agreed, But I always said, did anyone at UTD question SAF. The man was leaving… surely you do your due diligence and just ask, ‘Is Moyes the right answer?’

I believe they left it to SAF, and felt, well, if this goes wrong we can all blame SAF.
No, you are the new CEO, it’s on your head, what SAF did was suggest Moyes, he didn’t give him the contract.
It was just lazy bone idleness.
Then you let a man who hasn’t won Jack, sack the entire coaching staff that’s been used to winning/competing and rip up the winning culture.

But hey, Rio/ Vidic here’s a Phil Jagielka DVD on how to defend. Fack off

And remember the foolishness trying to get Hernandez!
And just like that, clubs/ceo’s all over the world said, we can scam UTD, cos they don’t have a clue how this works….
