do you actually watch england play objectively ?

We've had quality squads and with better managers and still not won. Naive to think France are the only team we have to worry about too. Germany are going to be up there.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Germany won’t make the semis - happy to bet that right now
For once I agree with you Peks, although I feel that is changing in England and players are demonstrably more technical.
I’d go Rice, Bellingham and then one from Foden, Grealish or Palmer myself.

Nonsense. The players are capable of playing any playstyle. You need a manager to set you up that way to actually do it. You think if Klopp or Guardiola, even Arteta was manager of England they'd be playing the defensive dross they serve up? They'd be controlling games and attacking, the same way countries with good managers do.
When England had Gerrard, Scholes, Lampard and Scholes they still had dinosaur managers, they always have dinosaur managers as it's what they seem to prefer. Only in that time they were trying to play a 4-4-2 and coming undone when up against good teams with three in midfield.
England are always behind the curve internationally. Not so much domestically because of the foreign managers.

Let’s look at some of the others
Spain - slightly better defence than England, slightly worse midfield, wide attacking players rival Englands, striker is absolutely honking compared to Kane
Italy - have you seen that frontline, Raspadori, Pellegrini and Aston Villa sub Zaniolo. The midfield has some quality - Barrella is a class player and we know they can defend better than most, but they have next to zero talent up top and England dearth with them comfortably in the qualifiers
Germany - for some reason a few fancy Germany because they are at home, ignoring that their team is painfully average. From the midfield up I’m not sure they have a player that would get in our squad, Kimmich maybe and he has suffered badly post Covid. They are just going through a big transition and are weak currently.
Portugal - best of the rest no doubt and I would be very nervous playing them, especially with their record against us. However, Pepe and Ronaldo still start, half their squad plays for Wolves and Goncalves is good, but he is no Kane. Felix has never lived up to the hype either.
Croatia - they have to be included in the chat as no matter how old they get they always are very competitive - although they seem to prefer the World Cup. They will be a real handful and I would prefer to avoid them, but they are so old now and Modric doesn’t start anymore for real, Perisic has had horrific injuries and they still lack a clinical striker
Holland - Bergwijn, Depay and Weghorst all get game time - what more do I need to say

Spains top team virtually operate without Spanish midfielder.
You don’t have a player as good Bellingham in there. Rice has shown that there isn’t much between him and Rodri. I am sure Spain will have a tidy passer in there that is better than Gallagher but it won’t be keeping England up at night, we’ve a midfield that can get stuck into yours.
I really hope we get to play Spain at this tournament, I think we will wipe the floor with them

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Spain defend through Possession, they just don’t let you have the ball.
The problem is that it can render their attack ineffective as the oppo sit deep, defend well and then go route one - Morocco tucked them up last time out
Plus the quite simple fact that no-one, at any point, said Spain were a counter attacking team

I feel the truth is somewhere in the middle. I think culturally the British game has a far bigger focus on power, even now, just look at the City team Pep has put together.
I also think Peks is right, that Spain culturally have a focus on technical ability over power.
That’s changing though, especially with less and less contact in the game.

Of course but it doesn't mean you get a load of powerful players in the team without and technique or that Spain should get a load of technical players without any power. Players and coaches are multinational now. They learn things in other countries and you get a blend of style.
It's very simple. You have a group of players, you play to their strengths. England have some quick and powerful players of course but they also have great technical players, one who can't get a look in, in TAA. Foden who has mostly been on the bench.
A manager with a modern approach has them dominating games and the defence don't have to worry too much. By all means shut up shop a little when playing the better sides if it's needed, personally I don't think it is. The players are there. However with a dinosaur approach the players will get you far but not far enough to win as you will come up against other top players but with a modern approach.
