Very sad news, MND is a terrible disease.
Was reading about Steph Houghton has retired to spend more time with her husband and family a few days ago. I hope Stephen is doing well but doubt it.
RIP Rob.
Really sad news about Rob Burrow, a rugby league great who suffered this awful disease with great dignity and with his great friend Kevin Sinfield has done an incredible job raising millions to help find a cure.
Aye, he dealt with it magnificently and him and Senfield (sp?) deserve huge respect
I’m not a prolific poster on here, but the Rhinos are second only to LUFC in my heart, so today’s news about Rob Burrows has totally shattered me. Of course we were all expecting it, but it’s still been a hammer blow.
For those who don’t follow Rugby League, I just wanted you all to know what a giant of a man the “little guy” was, both on and off the field. Think Bremner, think Batty and you’ll get an idea of how great a RL player he was.
Anyway, it’s brought tears to my eyes, so I’ll simply say Thank You RB, you will not soon be forgotten by Rhinos fans.
RIP 💔

I dont follow rugby at all, but watching teh tribute and montage in the link its clear that he was a very special player.
I send my condolences to the Burrows family and their friends.
MND is the most cruel illness. My heart goes out to anyone affected by it. Rob’s suffering is now over but I feel for his wife Lindsay and the children. She has been an absolute trooper caring for Rob and the 3 children and still managing to run half marathons to raise funds for the cause. Such sad news. I used to love to see Rob running like the wind and scoring tries for the Rhinos.
Sucks to be reading this. Little guy with a huge heart.
Brilliant rugby player, and by all accounts a great guy.

Yeah it's a horrific disease. Every now and again I look up Stephen Darby to see how he's doing and I believe he's in a chair now and watching his most recent interview he was really struggling to speak.
Marcus Stewart former Ipswich Town and Sunderland striker has it.
Jason Bowen who played for both Swansea and Cardiff, whilst also capped a couple of times for Wales has it too. He gave an interview last year explaining his reaction to when he was diagnosed:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-64823856
It really is tragic.
R.I.P Rob Burrow
Rob’s family deserve to be extremely proud of him. Love and best wishes to them.
I’ve had tears in my eyes and a croaky throat this weekend, an emotional up and downer!
On Saturday I watched a great Derby winner, City of Troy…love to see a thoroughbred racehorse with speed and stamina, my eyes filled up and got quite emotional, the wife thinks I’m insane!
But News this evening of Rob Burrows long fight with MND came to an end, at least the suffering he had to endure is no more…now the poor lad is at peace in rugby heaven.
So this evening for me is truly sad as I am a Rhinos fan as well as a Leeds fan, tears watching the tributes and a croaky voice!
Think I can compare Rob with City of Troy, in a sporting context of course…great players and great horses have great acceleration, vigour and courage.
5 stars for Jonty for putting it on the forum!

RIP Rob.
Done so much for the charity. What an awful disease. I do hope we find a cure one day.
Me and my wife had a tear last night and not massive rugby fans. Everyone knew who he was and respected him.
Kevin Sinfield should be knighted for his efforts helping his mate
I have a mate at Bowls has it...(about 7 years now) less aggressive kind but feeds through a tube every day & has no swallow reflex
Probably in his last year to be honest...Father in Law had it too...wasn't pretty in the end
awful business
One wonders, if we didnt have to fight terrorism, didnt have to beef up armies etc etc how many of the diseases we could have funded solutions for by now.
I can only echo what has been said by previous posters.
RIP to Rob who has passed away far too young. Condolences to his family and friends for their loss plus a huge thank you for the work done by Kevin Sinfield and others for what they have done to raise the profile of this horrific disease.

You make a very good point Jonty. Sadly we will never know what difference extra funding will make because armed conflict and terrorism will always be with us.

Unfortunately I doubt it would make a difference and actually wars sometimes have a positive impact on research, they accelerate the rate at which discoveries are made. I think radar and penicillin both became more widely used during WW2.
I think because MND affects so few people the amount of money that would be prioritised if it wasn't spent elsewhere would be marginal.
They can find the money when it's something like Covid or HIV and affects a whole lot of people but we aren't talking many thousands here and it would just be diverted elsewhere.
Even though we knew this was coming, it's still very sad - R.I.P Rob and
Thank you.
Remember folks MND disproportionately affects sportspeople and hence the constant questioning over heading the ball and the rugby laws cracking down on head injuries. It compelled my missus to become a director at an MND charity to help just cos our son is a CB so has headed the ball all his life. It is brutal with no cure. Yet.
