Sir Bob Paisley is the official last manager to stop RM in their competition
Yes but Ferguson is still the last manager to beat Real in a European final like Rob is saying.
Ferguson’s achievements at Aberdeen really do go under the radar, still the last club to win the league title other than the 2 Glasgow clubs. Even Dundee Utd at the time were a top side, cheated out of European Cup final against Liverpool in ‘84 too.

Really? Maybe for the younger generations but certainly for my generation (in my 40's) I'd say every single football fan is very aware of what Fergie did at Aberdeen.
It's often used as an argument for why he's the best ever manager - did exception things at an unfashionable club with 2 (relative) giants in the league.
Lots of "unfashionable" clubs won stuff in the 70s and 80s.
I think if you ask most football fans what Ferguson did they would simply talk about his achivements at United. Some will mention Aberdeen but even then I don't think it's widely accepted just what an incredible job he did there (largely because of how the Scottish leauge is perceived these days which is why I also mentioned Dundee) because of what he did at United over 27 years.
All 16 squad members were Scottish as well

Probably. But that's because he spend most time there and in terms of achievement, there's lots to reflect on!
As I said though, football fans know.
But that's my point, his time at United was so long and so successful that some fans do understate what he achieved before.
God knows when a Scottish side is gonna win a European trophy again, especially not an old firm side.

Rangers were an Aaron Ramsay penalty away from winning the EL just a couple of seasons ago. Closer than any PL side has come in recent years. In fact, every PL club that is in the EL should be winning it and the fact they don't each year is CATASTROPHIC failure. Being outperformed by a Scottish Premiership side.
Now with the Confernece League, Rangers or Celtic could win that.
Outside of the Old Firm unlikely just now unless someone gets cheating oil money like Man City did.
"Closer than any PL side has come in recent years."
You are aware United also lost the final only a year earlier. And Chelsea won it 2 years prior to that in an all English final, and United won it 2 years before that. England have won it the second most amount of times this century in fact after Spain (mainly Seville) who seem to win most years.

Incidentally next season the Europa doesn’t have Sevilla or Villareal so we might just sneak it
I know this is off topic a little, so sorry Robb.
But I truly believe, if given the chance, ETH will easily be our best manager since SAF. He has the same driven personality, is the boss and demands players have certain standards otherwise he doesn't want them.
I think next season would be a lot different to this, as I say if not sacked.
Yeah but Bilbao and Sociedad have who are both strong sides. Need to concertrate on building some cohesive attacking football next season rather than worrying about any cup IMO.

Three Scottish teams have lifted at least one European trophy. Celtic won the European Cup in 1967, Rangers won the Cup Winners' Cup in 1972 and Aberdeen won the Cup Winners' Cup and Super Cup in 1983.
What Fergie did at Aberdeen was nothing short of sensational.

Celtic's European Cup win was pretty mental, wasn't the entire team all born within 20 miles of Parkhead?
