Yes Lubo I think Gruev was definitely a valuable member of our success from New Year's day onwards and had the rumour of Dortmand or anyone else wanting Gruev for roughly 3 times we paid for him, I'd have been happy for him to stay although accepting at the same time the need for a box to box Lee Bowyer type midfielder alongside him as without one or two additions in that area I would be concerned a midfield 2. of Gruev and Kamara isn't going to be creative enough to get promoted.and Southampton proved at our expense sadly with Smallbone how a creative box to box midfielder can almost single handedly help win you very tight Championship games.

Paper talk, nobody has watched him and thought, he’s a £15m player.

He’d get murdered in the prem.

Very slow, not very mobile and to be honest, against the better sides, he got over run.

If your wanting your midfielder to play one twos with the centre halfs and keeper, all game, he’s your man.

But thats all he’s got.

Find it hard to rate him, when he looks like he’s got a bag of love balls, inside him when he’s running.

Type of player, who gets dropped and worth a £1m in a year.

You’ve got to sell at the right time, and that is now.

Dont dislike the player, good attitude but he really isnt my type of player. Got to give you more

We Leeds fans never learn, do we? Barely has the season ended and we're trotting out the 'heavily linked' and hearsay transfer rumours. My advice is: for your own sanity, don't waste your time - stay away from the message boards and social media 'news' sites. There may well be transfer business behind the scenes but if history is anything to go by, Leeds will be among the last out of the blocks. As seen on the BBC Championship site, a dozen clubs have already made signings or appointments, but nothing from Leeds, other than the news that Red Bull have taken a minority shareholding (not good news) and a quote by Paraag Marathe saying: 'We need to trade!'
So I'm signing off from here till for a month – have a great summer! MOT

Laughed out loud. Can't disagree.

We did seem to play better with him in the side.

Hate to say it but, I laughed out loud. Still smiling.

Hard to argue against this point. Could be true.

Absolutely agree. Stunned that Dortmund might want him.
And that Prem teams asking about him. Is it true?
Maybe. Maybe not. If it is, sell.

Same.

I'll just say I liked his willingness to tackle and track
and break up play. Despite looking like he might break
every time he got stuck in.

Regardless, we need a more dynamic, goal-scoring
midfield. We all know it. If Gruev does leave, thanks
for give 100% every game.

I sometimes forget how easy it is not to understand something you spend so much time talking about.

Picking up Lorra's point about Leeds usually doing their transfer deals much later than our rivals I'd have thought a similar pattern would ensue had it not been for the Red Bull association and therefore I'm optimistic that this transfer window will see Leeds fairly active from the official opening of it in just over a week.

I may have to eat my words if that doesn't happen and obviously the silly click bait season is upon us and no doubt Ryan Kent will be joining us soon... yeah right... but I'm sure we all enjoy the rumours even the far fetched ones keep us entertained, Neo Lang a case in point but so far the ones we have been linked to don't seem too off the wall and I think Farke will also be working on a few European player deals quietly we
haven't heard of like he did with Gruev so hopefully by the time the new season kicks off our strongest 11 will hit the ground running.

Instead of trying to have a sly clever dig.

Why not have a discussion, and tell everyone why you rate him 👍

You might even say something, that resonates with people and take a different view on it 👍

Stood five yards infront of the defence, playing safe 5 yard passes, slowing it down, Its not for me.

You might like that, but teams worked it out, and just cut of supply to the full backs, while also leaving big gap between defence and attack.

Re Leeds always buying late….maybe it’s because the players we’re looking at have Premier League connections/options/aspirations and the EPL clubs always tend to do their deals late. Those other teams who do early deals are perhaps dealing with players who have more limited options?
Won’t always be the case but might be a factor

This is a good point, I have a friend who is a Coventry fan, he is raving about the fact his side have signed Marko Stamenic, a 22 year old New Zealand international from Red Star Belgrade and Rapheal Borges a 20 year old from the A-league, looked at the latter on line, he goes past players but looks clumsy.
We could do this kind of business early but these kind of players will not improve on what we have, will probably go out on loan or not even be that good.

Didn't think it was that sly.

Gruev is one of those players who is system dependent. He suots Farke's style down to the ground, because it requires a holding midfielder who exists to keep the play safe and keep the ball moving. It's not about being flashy. It's not about raking forward passes. Yeah, would be nice if he could do that, but what he does is fine. Keeps us ticking over, and is genuinely an elite player at this level I'm games you're winning.

Criticism of him not scoring is silly. He's not there to score. Some top CDMs go entirely careers and score like 5 or 6 goals. It's fine.

If we are offered 10 million I'd probably take it, but I find the idea that he's not good incredibly funny. Especially if it's Jonty saying it. Not every player in a side is going to be a summerville or a rutter. When you have so many players like that, I think it's wise to have a couple guys further back who are just better at keeping the ball safe.

Gruev, accurate passer, very tidy as a defender, passes back and sideways, to the goalie….dont they all!
I’ve always seen him as a Phillips style of player, I’ve also seen him make slide rule forward passes, at times.

Leeds should hold on to him in my opinion.

Gruev I like. He does what he’s there to do. He does it well. Nobody moaned when Batty played in MF and rarely scored. He was there to win the ball and pass it to someone who could hurt the opposition.

To be honest our whole midfield don’t score enough goals and even if we put Archie in there it’s no different.

I like Kamara but he infuriates me at times because he always looks for the pass rather than having a go himself. That makes us far too dependent on the forwards to score.

Maybe it’s Farke? Maybe he wants the perfect goal every time? For me, a speculative shot can cause all sorts of problems for the opposition. It only needs a deflection or a mistake and you score. I think Archie did actually score that way this season.

Not 100% sure it’s Farke as I’ve seen him have words with Archie to “just have a go” when he sees an opportunity. We just don’t do it enough imo.

Gruev is the proverbial water carrier and serves a vital role but I think he can be replaced with at least half of the rumoured fee we get for him and the profit used to help find a more creative goal scoring option than what Kamara offers, someone similar to Smallbone at Southampton, maybe Hamer ex of Coventry or Chair from QPR as long as the criminal conviction he's accused of is quashed.

Think i’ve watch every match he’s played. Literally plays one twos with the defence, all game

I see Ampadu as our number one DM with a more mobile CM next to him - Archie and a new signing possibly. Someone more box to box who can get the odd goal or two.

So basically i see Gruev as a back up DM even if hes pretty decent at what he does. If we can get decent money 10m+ I think it suits us.

Feel same as LIW re Gruev. If someone wants to
spend a good amount above what we paid, I'd sell
in a heartbeat. As much as I like him, he's easily
replaced at this level.
