It was a clear foul and Rodri was lucky not to be sent off.
It was encroachment and that is what the ref gave.
Encroachment doesn't equal retake if it is the attacker encroaching, it is an indirect free-kick to the defending team.

No way that was a foul the player dived !

Absolutely dreadful official.

It was a foul and should have been red as Rodri didn't attempt to play the ball.

Was a bit confused with the penalty as it looked like the keeper went before the penalty was hit. If not then correct decision, goal disallowed and freekick to Spain, since the penalty didn't go in.

Saw a replay that showed Simon had one foot on the line, although the TV replay made it look like he had gone early.

An embarrassment of an article. Genuinely thinking of suing the OP

It looked like a dive but I've only seen the you tube clip. It was encroachment so an indirect free kick to Spain was correct. also the keepers foot looked to be on the line.

Disband the PGMOL and put to pasture anyone associated with it. Start afresh.

Looks a pretty clear dive to me. Surely VAR should pick that up?

Why on earth would he dive 3 yards out from the goal when he’s practically 1 on 1? He was about to bury it, there was contact which then made him actually trip himself up if you watch the replay

It wasn’t a dive - the only question is if there was any contact before he got his own legs in a tangle

Right, I'm back again with yet another example of Atwell's incompetence.

Last night, Germany vs Denmark, he, as VAR, decided that the Danish player handled the ball and overturned the onfield decision which was no penalty.

The incident was almost the same as the onfield decision he agreed with in the Everton vs Forest match. ie penalty DENIED. In actual fact the Everton incident was far worse than the incident last night. The ball didn't really deflect all that much. In the Forest game, Ashley Young knocked the ball out of play with his forearm for a corner, thus changing the whole flow of the game. Last night, the ball touched the defenders hand, granted, but my objection to this total waste of space is the inconsistency.

If the Forest incident wasn't a penalty, then the German incident wasn't a penalty either; or they were both penalties.

Atwell is a clown.

Correction: Atwell sent the match referee to the VAR screen in the Germany match, something he singularly failed to do in the Forest match.
