Doesn't Xhaka play DM for Leverkusen as the deeperst of a midfield 2, or as the deepest of a midfield 4 in a 3-4-3 system with 2 wingbacks? It's not radically different from what he was playing at Arsenal when he was a frustrating figure.

Arguably one of the best midfielders in World football at the moment, it is a shame we only truly saw that in Xhakas final season as an Arsenal player.

He had very good games before his last season as well. Shame that only Arteta found his right position to express himself and be a worthy asset for the team.
Having the odd good game doesn't make you one of the best midfielders around, you need to do it all the time.
The year before he left he was good as well.
Plus that year started with 3 pretty shocking games, a 3 game suspension, and then 8 games injured. So at best a good half a season.
Started to steadily improve as Arteta came in (still had the odd brain fart playing deeper), until Arteta changed us to a 4-3-3 (ish) formation in the 2nd half of 21-22.
He improved massively after that, playing as a more natural left 8.
Lots of managers saw the potential in Xhaka, I'm glad that Arteta didn't listen to the fans to sell him to Roma for only £12m.

He’s always played well for Swiss and abroad. Don’t think he was ever able to show his on ball proper skills in PL. At the same time for Arsenal he used to cover other players without receiving credit
