Liverpool fan above is clueless. He played well in a dire England team. Foden was the main problem the entire game.

The most annoying thing was he was still set pieces despite him hitting the first man every time. He's not had a good tournament. Bellingham was poor up to his goal too.
Kane had two big chances before Mainoo went off. If anything England got worse until the last gasp Bellingham strike.
Had some dangerous moments but dipped in and out of the game a lot, probably not ready to be starting games in the latter stages of international knockout football but Southgate seems to be hoping he'll stumble across a solution for his problems without having to drop his favourites

I find that when he's on the pitch he comes across as Mr sensible. That's no bad thing, he plays the right pass and does the right thing.
My criticism of him is that when the defence has the ball from a restart he doesn't really move around much to make himself available. He tends to walk around and wait for someone else to make something happen.
Everything else he does really well, but he needs to be a bit more vocal / someone trying to make something happen when his side have the ball. Basically just make himself a bit more available / demanding of the ball.
When he's got the ball though he nearly always tries to do the right thing
The great thing about my criticism is I think he can be coached to make a bit more space for himself / make himself a bit more available and demand the ball a bit more.
I did notice that the Slovakians especially in the first half had a player marking him / pressing him pretty well
He was ok. No big mistakes.

Mainoo was no worse than Rice or Bellingham when on the pitch. Slightly better for me

That’s ironic
I think Saka was the main problem. He was non-existent. Watching Saka makes me think Rashford and Grealish would look world class in that side of the pitch.
I think that Mainoo was one of the few players to try and be positive. And Palmer when he came on tried to look forward.
The problem of who partners Rice will not be solved until we have someone at left back who gives us width and can run into the space beyond our winger. Also, I like Saka, but I think Palmer is more creative, comes deep to look for the ball, plays into space and can make things happen... and he always shows for the ball. I am shocked he went for Eze before Gordon too as Gordon is more direct and gives more width.

I'll take that from an Arsenal fan. Apart from his foot landing on an oppo foot (he wasn't even looking where he put his foot down), and that random shot I don't think he did that much wrong.
He's class at United, and would fit in well at another top club.
When everyone else is charging around and screaming at each other, I love his calmness.
Jude McTominay to the rescue.

What’s the alternative though? Nobody else has the skillset Mainoo does and it shows when he didn’t play.
Todays game shouldn’t have been about the midfield though, the space was wide and in behind yet we failed to make use of that.

Ran around a bit but never found space
No creativity
Looked gassed after 60 mins
England’s best moments came when he was subbed off
Mainoo when he has the ball doesn't give it away.
However I think he needs to be a bit more demanding of the ball when the defence is deciding who to pass to. I think at the moment he doesn't look to make much space for himself to receive the ball.
If he does, make a small darting move into space to take the ball from defence, he'll become far more influential from the middle of the field

Rice was clearly better in the 2nd half, there's no need to be tribal over these things.

It’s who plays left back and sorting Bellinghams positioning out, it’s messing up the defence and attack.
I doubt he’ll do anything though as he does a moment like that.

The answer is Shaw, but Shaw is so injury prone that he can't be relied on
I actually think he played relatively well.
