I hope we don't replace Gabs with Guehi, that feels like a step backwards. He might be a touch stronger and better in the air, but looks mistake ridden to me for both Palace and England, and nowhere near as composed on the ball.
Yeah definitely last summer it felt like Gabs might be on his way out in another ruthless Arteta upgrade, but you surely must feel he's earned his place in the team now.
Calafiori, it could be argued, may be for LB - with maybe Timber inverting at RB and White being cover.
Will be interesting if anything comes from the rumours, but despite the success of Saliba and Gabriel I do still get the feeling Arteta sees Gabriel as an player he can improve on. Would be a big risk to upset such a well performing unit.
He did it with Ramsdale so he has form.

Stronger and better in the air? Gabriel is taller and wins a lot more aerial duels than Guehi, is more physical (winning more ground duels, tackles and interceptions) and gets dribbled about 4 times less per game than Guehi. Guehi looks a bit more composed on the ball than Gabriel, but I simply see no reason to be looking at Guehi as a replacement.
Guehi is nowhere near Gabriel. Only reason we could be looking at another CB is probably just down for cover.
Out of White, Saliba and Gabriel, it's definitely the Brazilian who is most at risk of being demoted. Especially if timber plays the inverted full back role.
Timber - White - Saliba - New LB/Tomi
That's not even taking account of if we sign a new LCB.
Timbers injury this year delayed what I think would've been a sticky situation for Gabi Mags.
One thing is for sure, if that is the plan, then we probably need to sell him now for maximum value. And that's tough for me to say, as I love the big guy.
Gabriel is a skittish defender and sometimes super aggressive that leads to mistakes. His passing has improved, but still not to the top level. On the positives, Gabriel aggressiveness complements Saliba very well. Saliba is very laid back.
Guehi is better is a lot of those skills.
Arteta likes to play 4 CBs at the back. Maybe we want a replacement for Kiwior more than Gabriel?
You ain't paying those sums for a back up.
I think it will become clearer after the Euros. Kiwior has been linked to a move away for a while.

Yes?
White - Saliba - Guehi (or Calafiori) - Gabriel?
There was a fascinating report that Napoli wanted Tomiyasu a month ago. Now, if both Kiwior and Tomiyasu were leaving?
Thought we needed a striker
If he is thinking of replacing him then he's mad Saliba and Gabriel complement each other perfectly well. Unless Kiwior is leaving we don't need any defenders Timber at left back which seemed like that was going to last season with Tomyasiu covering both sides. We need reinforcements further forward.

We were one defender short last season, even with Timber, so would hope we would get at least 1 in.
Could sell both Kiwior and Zinchenko.

tbh i thought Kiwior did really well at LB during the 2nd part of the season when he replaced Zinny.
I'd keep him and look to sell Zinchenko.
Of course he rates Gabriel
So why did he bench him to play Tommy Partey at right back?
And now alledgedly buying a LCB for £45m??
I put that down to Arteta over tinkering, seeing if we could do the inverted fullback in the other side in games where we need a better 1on1 defender than zinchenko
&
Gabriel's head might have not been in the right place after the potential big money move to Saudi
I love big Gabby but a 120m offer for him would give us enough to replace him and have loads to spare elsewhere
Who is going to pay £120m for Gabriel?
