England playing like Real Madrid in knock out games, not spectacular but getting the business done. Who cares how you win, just win

Gareth just Swapped Kane for Ollie and Ollie scores what looks like the winner. Southgate is the Einstein of football

Southgate is still a very lucky manager for me. Credit where credit is due for beating the Netherlands. If we can somehow beat Spain as well then he's done a good job. Big ask though and even if he were to win, I would still like to see someone replace him.

Are you mental?. Southgate has now navigated to the late stages of four major international tournaments. That is not luck. Southgate understands international football and what is required more so than perhaps any other England manager before him. It would be a dreadful mistake to replace him

Of course there is luck involved. We were lucky with the penalty tonight. Where previous England managers used to get those bad pieces of luck in games, Southgate is getting all the little and big things go for him.

You cannot tell me he plotted for Bellingham to score a last gasp equaliser in the game against Slovakia when we looked down and out? Come on mate, he's a very lucky manager. He must fart out 4 leaf clovers.

It requires an element of luck to win, but luck derives from a baseline of strong management. Southgate give England a platform to have luck. Whereas previous managers have created platforms for bad luck

The story of Southgate for England is decent draws and good squads. Either or both. Also a home tournament. You give a lot of managers those conditions and they'd produce a similar outcome. I mean it's not his fault he's had the luck but he's had it nevertheless.

If people thought he was that good a manager they'd have him at their clubs when the reality is they wouldn't touch him with a bargepole.

Yeah the old 'we play sh!t but we won so shut up' only works when you win. Of course he'll get away with us hanging on against sheit teams, players looking lost and pretty well all underperforming, if it wins a trophy. But he shouldn't if he doesn't. Fack that.

It's like putting up with post-trophies Mourinho only he doesn't have the experience or charisma to deal with criticism. Look how Deschamps dealt with the pressure he was under to play good football. Different level

Also I have to agree with this. I don't think it's 'luck' getting to the final. I think it's ok to say you don't like it but it works

I think he should leave either way.

We've been rubbish apart from 45 mins. If we win now it feels like we've done it despite him and if we don't it'll feel like another tournament of players taking us close.

Don't get me wrong, in terms of what he's done to get us to the 2021 final I don't think anyone else could have done that. But since then, I don't think he's been the man to move us forward.

I hope we can put in a performance to show otherwise on Sunday

Nobody else could have got us to a final of the last Euros with a decent draw, good players and home advantage? You're giving Southgate way too much credit. There are managers that could not only have got to that final but win it as well.

Look at the teams Sven lost to in the KO rounds - Brazil, and Portugal twice. Let's be honest they are probably better than any team Southgate has faced in his KO rounds, other than the ones he actually lost to.

I meant in terms of rebuilding the fractured nature of the in house rivalries - he genuinely did a great job in eliminating that and stuff IMO and I that a couple of years ago he did a good job, I just think he's taken us as far as he can and we should move on after this tournie no matter what happens.

Honestly, you guys should build him a facking statue and let him fack your missus.

He has gotten England to twice as many major finals as every single other England manager EVER combined. Let that sink in.

Yeah you are crap and an absolute misery to watch but his record is outrageous for such a middling national team.

Would we be a middling national team if another manager took over though?

Despite not because. He’s managed us during a period where other teams have low quality, what he’s ’achieved’ has been done with favourable conditions.

He’s getting loads of praise for the Watkins sub, but all it did was prove what we are capable of if we have a mobile striker up top, rather than a super tanker.

He’s a fraud no matter what happens.

If we play well and actually attack but lose then he can hold his head high. My frustrations with him all come from being way too defensive and not being proactive at times.

A 94th minute bicycle kick being the first shot on target for example, that's all on individual skill and absolutely nothing to do with his tactics getting the better of the opposition.

I see quite a few parallels with Ten Hag, the difference being that there's no league to judge on.

Ten Hag would've been sacked and universally condemned by utd fans if utd didn't win the FA Cup. Now the utd fanbase are a bit more divided about him.

As others have said, if you play badly but still get through, that means nothing unless you win the trophy.
