It's strange that his international trophies have come when Messi would have been considered to be past his best. As a competition the Copa America doesn't compare to either the Euros or the World Cup. Still a great achievement by Messi, and no doubting his greatness, but this latest Copa America doesn't add much to that in my eyes
If not then Messi would be the ONLY outfield 3-peat, International treble winning captain in the entire history of football.

I love how people dismiss Copa America. Before Messi won it, he was mocked for never lifting it because ‘it’s a major trophy’
Suddenly he won it and it became a Mickey Mouse cup.
If people said the same thing about Messi, but it was AFCON he’d won, then they’d be racists.
People just hate Messi because he’s the goat.
Pele and Maradona never won a Copa America, both played in them too. So it must be really easy to win.

Outside of Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay though there is a real drop off in quality to sides that most years wouldn’t trouble any of the better European teams. Currently Colombia are a very good team, first loss in a couple of years, but to even that out, Brazil aren’t very good by their own standards.
They’ve also gone down the Euros route and expanded the tournament so that you have faaacking Panama competing and doing well- like the Euros with Georgia. Honestly these tournaments should have left well alone -12 team Copas and 16 team Euros is the ideal.
Finally, people love chatting routes when it comes to England, well Argentina had:
Group
Canada
Chile
Peru
Quarters - Ecuador
Semi - Canada again
Final Colombia
I reckon any of the Euro quarter finalists would have won the comp with that route

I don't agree. The 2022 WC winning Argie side was largely average except Messi.
Otamendi at CB ffs he was about 48 then and 50 now!
Both fullbacks bang average and workmen midfielders like De Paul. Mac Allister average and tbf Enzo is good but not top class.
Alvarez up front bang average and Di Maria in decline.

You really don't read posts properly, do you. I said the Copa America doesn't compare to the World Cup or Euros. For what it's worth, neither does AFCON, or the Asian Cup. Does that make me racist??!!
And as pointed out, I didn't say that Messi wasn't a great either. Not sure if he is the goat, but he's certainly in the convo.
Just finally, the 2022 WC team was decent enough. The 1986 wasn't great at all, nor the 1990 one. Maradonna, esp in 86, gave the closest thing to 'one man team', and also managed to drag the team to another final 4 years later.

Ahaha let's pretend the 2022 WC team wasn't dragged on it's own to the final, and over the line, by Messi.
Compare the stats of Maradona's WC win to Messi's WC win.
It's clear as day that Messi was more 'one man team' than El Diego.

Marginally better than the euros then.
Last nights extra time was excellent, both sixes left it all on the line.

It's strange that his international trophies have come when Messi would have been considered to be past his best. As a competition the Copa America doesn't compare to either the Euros or the World Cup. Still a great achievement by Messi, and no doubting his greatness, but this latest Copa America doesn't add much to that in my eyes

Try harder when trying to wum mate

And yet Argentina were rubbish for the whole tournament. They were just less rubbish than everyone else. Every game was marred by diving, play acting and excessive fouling. The majority of it was unwatchable.

Marginally better than the euros then.
Last nights extra time was excellent, both sixes left it all on the line.
