He has massive wages and doesn't want to leave Spain so looks unlikely for us.

I think wages are the stumbling block. If a club is willing to pay he might still be will yo give away from Spain. But you are right will most likely go to Barca if they can afford him.

We will probably get whoever makes way at Barca. Ferrari Torres.

Good player. Unlikely to get him however.

What we do need though is a real technician in MF.

Would you take Martin Zubimendi?

Another one who won't leave the comfort of home.

Nico wants about £300K per week and would likely go to Barca, the president of La Liga does not want to lose him to the PL.

All these Basque boys tend to be homesick mama's boys. Always worry about how they'd adapt to the PL.

If Nico Williams' release clause is £50M, which is a bargain, then it's more than fair to pay him £300K per week in wages, IMO.

Actually looked good yesterday.

Rice will always do well in the prem but kind of looks out of his depth when up against a real technical MF

Rice needs to play DM in Europe imo. Great at defending but horrendous with the ball and without a proper ball playing CM he’s a bit of a liability.

He's a DM and always will be I think. A few good runs and shots against poor opposition doesn't change that, he just doesn't have that close control needed to be a true box to box mid.

Rice is not "horrendous with the ball' at all. He was actually a lot better on the ball than I thought when he arrived at Arsenal. He carries it well through midfield - a reason he found success as an 8 in Arsenal.

Not seen enough of Zubimendi, but he had a good game yesterday. I thought Spain were cooked when Rodri came off at halftime, but he slotted in nicely, and they kept their shape and upped their intensity going forward.

Rice is actually better than what I thought he was. I thought he was just a physical player with a good engine but he has shown that there is more to his game.

Saying all that, I don't actually think he is better than a fit and healthy Partey.

Hope he plays as a 6 this season

Rice does everything better than Partey, IMO. He's been better and more productive going forward than Partey at Arsenal. He's as effective defensively. And he makes less of those maddening errors that puts us in trouble, like Partey does when he makes a sloppy pass infront of our box or gets caught on the ball in a dangerous position.

Rice hasn't been great at the Euros, but I've seen too many people (including Arsenal fans) getting carried away with that and forgetting what he's brought to Arsenal. His performance in the Euros is irrelevant in evaluating his impact to us which has been overwhelmingly positive.

Without a doubt, Rice is better defensively and less error prone.

However, as a progressive MF player, Partey is ahead

For some reason I think Nico Williams will find it hard in the EPL.

The issue comes when the other, more established, players who are already at the club and may have contributed to recent success then go "hang on, why is this new 22 year old in double the money that the rest of us are getting?"

I think Salah got bumped up to about that level on his last contract negotiation, but how do you think he would have felt before that if, after being a record goalscorer and leading Liverpool to every trophy, a new kid was being paid more than him?

Good point
Also we have to renegotiate Saka's contract in the next year too

He's on 250k a week atm so I'd expect hos agent to be seeking 3-400k a week. That's why so few clubs have pursued him, and smart from his club, noting they spend on transfer fees.

What the fack? He has things to work on but to call him horrendous and a liability is just pure conjecture. Stay the fack off twitter.
