I wonder if we did sign Yoro we'd also sign De Ligt and give Yoro games at RB on occasion?
Ornstein said today that we're likely to only sign one of Yoro or De Ligt, although not sure if it was based on anything concrete or more just a hunch.
If so though it wouldn't surprise me - given we're still not sure about how Martinez will hold up fitness-wise, I think we really need one left-sided defender in addition to a right sided one. Yoro and De Ligt are capable of playing there I'm sure (as is Maguire), but Ten Hag quite obviously has a preference for a left footer there.
My hunch is that the De Ligt deal would be quite easy to do, but we're waiting to see what happens with Yoro first. Branthwaite was more of a standalone target based on his profile - I think we'll now start looking at alternatives now that Everton have sold Onana.
Usually if a player is set on a move somewhere else then I’d keep away but maybe if we can use him like we used Ronaldo and get some very good years out of him and then sell him in 4-5 years to Real for a big fee it might work.
I thought the plan was to bring in 2 CBs? Especially now we’ve sold the French lad and seem to want to move on Lindelof.
From the 3 United have been linked with my order of preference is
Yoro
Breathie
De Light
Any 2/3 of the 3 and United are COOKING but something tells me they’ll only secure De Ligt as the team wants to get rid the player wants to leave and the fee is reasonable.
He’s the weakest of the 3 sadly.
I watch very little football outside of United these days, maybe the odd big non-United PL game so I don’t know who would be the best option.
I’m really happy though that we are targeting young players this summer.

1982, agree with your main point, but on the above part, do we have a solid basis to say he had his heart set on Real? That seems to be received wisdom, further cemented by a post from what turned out to be a fake profile. If he was keen on a move to Real when they were the only team showing tangible interest, and now perfectly happy to talk to United in the absence of a concrete offer from Real, I don't have any issues with that. Moreover, these days United aren't going to be first choice for plenty of the players who can help us bridge the gap, so if we can recruit them up by being opportunistic when elite teams aren't ready to bid, I'm all for it. Beats the Woodward era tactic of just offering them 50% more than they would have earned at the club they really wanted to play for.

I'd imagine De Ligt would perform at a higher level than the other two from day one, with more composure and confidence, if he's physically fit enough to be signed in the first place. A slight concern would be a lack of pace between him and Martinez.
Made an edit to the OP to mention we've most recently been linked with Tah, De Ligt's supposed replacement at Bayern.

I wonder if this is to get them to release De Ligt for a smaller fee? Or just paper talk? Or a genuine interest? Or, I don't know anything about transfers!
Not a fan of the De Ligt move. Injuries, wages and pace all a concern.
Haven't watched Yoro so all you can base your opinion on is his write ups and he's described as one of the most talented young CB's around.
Branthwaite would be fine too but not at the prices Everton want. That's a pass for me.

It was much easier in the days of Clubcall.
Ain’t that bothered if he has a dream to play for Madrid but signs for United especially if he’s young and sign a lengthy contract with a big release clause.
If he’s successful we either profit or he stays because United are back to winning ways.
De Ligt/Tah would probably help us from the off to build a solid defensive unit and look more organised, but it sounds like Yoro is the one with the most potential.
No idea how people can base it all on an 18 year old CB, hard position to pinpoint the future greats at that age imo.
Another thing I've read about their profiles is that stylistically De Ligt is more like Martinez as an aggressive, proactive defender, whereas Yoro is more like Varane as the one who tracks movements in behind. So Yoro could be a more complementary partner for Lisandro if you want one who steps up and one who sweeps up behind.
Latest rumour is that we’re in discussions with the player on personal terms.
If we're onto talking to the player you'd think he's up for a move. Hopefully if he joins he's a success and we can worry about what we do with him in a few years although it's probably been over a decade since we actually bought someone, improved them and then had clubs wanting the player.

Haha yes. It'd be a novelty to actually have a really big club try to poach one of our players!

Newcastle fans, apparently experts in executive recruitment and employment contract law, were lining up to proclaim that United would have to either cough up £30m or wait 18 months (while also suggesting Ashworth was bad at his job).
