Look up the classifcian for a club trained player. Seperate issue but it is a small hurdle.

Also don't get too excited because the oppo were awful yday but credit to the young lads. Lots of positives to take.

I compare their performances to the established pros and not the opposition. They played better than some players that will get major minutes next season.

Most of those youngsters won’t even be registered on the main list.

It’ll be the B / u21 list so yeah we still need HG players for now

Do we have to fill the spots if the B list already gets promoted?

Yes if they are U21 then they go on B list iirc

Sure @christopher will be along shortly as he’s the one that knows exactly

You don't have to fill the squad.
If you have 2 club trained players you can only name 23 in the senior squad - but if you have 6 u21s ready for the first team then it doesn't make sense to buy (or not sell) just to fill the squad.

I guess the best example is Skipp. If he isn't in the managers plans and Bergvall, Moore and Robson are going to be used ahead of him then it doesn't make sense to keep Skipp just for numbers.

(don't worry about specific names, just for example).

there is no minimum number of association trained and club trained players that you need to register.

If you want to fill out the full squad of 25, then 4 of those spots are reserved for association trained players and 4 are reserved for club trained players.

but you don't need to fill out a whole squad of 25. Look at United for example, Mainoo is gonna go on their b-list but that doesn't mean they now need to add another homegrown player for their a-list. So theoretically, if Ange was perfectly happy with the squad currently due to him wanting to use the academy players, then we wouldn't have any issues in terms of home grown and club trained numbers.

The truth though is that the rest of our business should not be changed based on one friendly against hearts. We still need to add.

Currently for the A-List

21 foreign trained players
7 association trained players
4 club trained players

so if the window ended last night we would have 7 players that we would not be able to register for the Europa League. And that's with us still looking to add another 2-3 signings.

So a lot of outgoings still need to happen

So for instance if we wanted to add eze, Neto & foreign LB we’d need to get rid of 10 players?

posted on 18/7/24

Yes, or at the very least get rid of most of them and then just not register a handful for the europa league. But ideally you would get them all out

Forster - unregistered for EL
Spence - Loan
Royal - Sold
Phillips - Loan
Reggy - Contract Terminated
Højbjerg - Sold
Lo Celso - Sold
Veliz - Loan
Solomon - Loan
Gil - Loan

This would create the 3 squad spots you're looking for.

Brennan Johnson is also associated trained

Max Robson is also now too old to be on the B-List so is now on the locally trained list.

All of our academy players born after January 1st 2003 are eligible for the B-List

posted on 18/7/24

For those wondering, the reason why Gray, Phillips, Bergvall aren't eligible for the B-List despite their age is that you have to have been at the club for an uninterrupted period of 2 seasons, or 3 seasons with a loan in the middle

SO in the Foreign trained we have 21, but are likely to lose 5 through sales and possibly loan 2 out = 14.

That leaves 3 spaces for the max 17 foreign trained players in our Europa Squad.

Of the next 8, no more than 4 can be assoc. trained. SO from that list it would be Maddison, Johnson as certs and probably Gray as we spent £40m on him. That leaves one place - Spence to me makes sense as backup RB but it seems we would be better off buying a foreign RB and perhaps saving this squad Assoc trained space for someone like Eze.

I do not understand the purpose of these rules - I know its to promote HG youth, and that nationality is no barrier to that but when we cannot have English players in the squad of an English club because we didnt train them it seems to completely skewed.

Is this reflecting European employment law and freedom of movement.

posted on 18/7/24

well you can have as many English players as you like, it isn't a limit of 4 association trained players - it's a limit of 4 association trained players before they start counting towards the foreign trained quota. you could have 21 association trained players in your squad theoretically

Surely we will get a fee for Reguilon? I’d expect 4-5m at least..

Pretty sure Sarr is counted as HG in the prem but not for Europe.

Just to add this into the mix.
