Klopp is all about the team, I don’t think he’d ever leave us in the mess that Fergie left Utd.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Fergie didn't leave that much of a mess. The issue was David Gill retiring at the same time. He just won the league with your mess.

Massive lack of succession planning because Fergie was all about himself so went and bought players like RVP knowing he could deliver at the time, but not in the future.

"Lack of succession planning" is a valid criticism. "Fergie was all about himself" is letting your tribal animosity side get the better of you.

In his final summer window Fergie bought 23 year-old Kagawa, youth prospect Nick Powell, young back-up left back Buttner. He bought Wifried Zaha in January 2013 (loaned back to Palace for the rest of the season). When RVP moved to United he was 29 years old and potentially had 4-5 years ahead of him - and buying a player in his prime alongside players who would develop was always a feature of Fergie-era recruitment. More importantly, it was only around February/March of 2013 that Fergie made the sudden decision to retire, if I recall correctly, largely in response to the death of his wife's sister and a sense that he should spend more time with family as they grew old.

So the decision to recruit Van Persie was made at a time when Fergie didn't yet realise it was his last season, and in the context of otherwise buying players with a view to the future.

This myth that Fergie bought RVP to win one final title has been debunked so many times.

Ferguson didn’t even know he was going to retire when he bought RvP.

Just for those who are new to 606… Diafol posts a wum article about Liverpool, I in turn post a wum back, and that’s about it. I wouldn’t over think it.

But while I’m here…

‘ In his final summer window Fergie bought 23 year-old Kagawa, youth prospect Nick Powell, young back-up left back Buttner. ’

These are not the acts of a man who cares about Utds future.

Knowing Fergie he’d want to chuck a spanner in the works so his legacy looks better. This is a man who used to spit during the national anthem and then accepted a knighthood. Two faced.

I am kind of baffled by Liverpool's inactivity in the market. They shouldn't be constrained by the regulations given they've not spent massively.

They've yet to make signing, yet too even make noises they are seriously chasing anyone.

They need a decent sized refresh this summer.

Robertson is going downhill and Tsimikas isn't capable of being a starter if you want to win things.

VVD is still good but not imperious like he was a couple of years ago (he's in renew or sell time too),

They still need to replace Fabinho and the market for quality DM's is quickly drying up.

Big question on Salah, another they should really be selling this summer if the Saudi's come knocking with good money.

Diaz making noise that he wants out.

Absolutely must buy a centre forward and consign Nunez to the bench if selling him is too difficult.

Why the fook are they still standing around with their hands in their pockets. I think they should be starting to worry.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Probably because they don't agree with your assessment.

Robertson showing no signs of regressions yet, much less going down hill. Tsimikas is poor, I'll give you that one.

VVD still a world class centre back as he showed last season.

A DM needed of course but Bajcetic back from injury who looks to have bags of potential, in the event we don't get one in.

No real questions on Salah, has regressed slightly but still a top player who scores and assists loads.

Diaz has made no noise of wanting out whatsoever.

Nunez scores goals and works his socks off. Was on course for an outstanding season until hitting poor form towards the end of the season. Hopefully more experience gained for a young player will see him progress further again this season from his 18 goals and 13 assists.

I doubt they're standing around, new manager, new transfer team, EUROs, Copa etc. Not too many moving quickly this window but expect things to happen for many later in the window.

Liverpool’s squad now is much better than the 1 SAF left behind.

Just shows how much of a genius SAF was though.

I highly doubt Pep or Klopp would have won the league with SAF’s last team.

You’ve probably seen it Process but the overlap had a section with Rio about RvP and him taking Scholes, Rooney, Giggs, etc to one side saying ‘pass it to him as early as possible and you’ll win the league. If you don’t then you won’t play’.

Worked too, plus created that brilliant volley.

The top teams have better squads these days. I don't see our 2012-13 team getting close to the title in 2024.

posted on 24/7/24

We will see how good this Liverpool squad truly is this season. I have my suspicions that Klopp was getting 15 to 20% more out of them than most other managers could do. If that theory is correct then they are going to drop off a fair bit.

Why not? It was not a run of the mill team. It only lost the title the year before on goal difference.

It’s a valid comment.

There is a LONG list of players, at both Dortmund and Liverpool, that as soon as they leave Klopp, they drop off a cliff.
