Going by trends of recent seasons Shaw is actually due a pretty injury free one. Wouldn’t bet on it though.

Personally I'd be happy to use Shaw as LB / cover at CB and Malacia or Dalot as cover at LB

Malacia doesnt look like a United standard player and had been out for a long time. Shaw often gets injured. Dalot isn't bad cover but nowhere near as good as Shaw when fit. And we/Rashford are a completely different prospect when Shaw plays. I can see the argument for signing a new LB. Ideally someone with similar attributes to Shaw

I do wonder if Malacia will prove good enough, but I'd like to see him given another chance.

39 games is enough to make a judgement. Players rarely come back better from such a long play off.

Maybe. I am just willing to give him another chance.
