Last season, Youssouf Fofana ranked in the top 10% of central midfielders across Europe’s top five leagues in key metrics per 90 minutes:

▪️passes into the final third (6.47)
▪️progressive passes (8.31)
▪️ball recoveries (7.68)
▪️through balls (0.43)

We’ve just started holding ‘initial talks’ with half of Europe now according to journos after ‘discussing’ and being ‘in talks’ with PSG for over a month about Ugarte but still being way apart in valuations, not sure what all these meetings are actually talking about.

Is it just possible that this Summer we're actually keeping our cards close to our chest and trying to get some good deals through without overpaying? Once we do buy a few more then wouldn't be surprised if quite a few left.

Think it’s more the other way round, struggling to shift the players we need to be able to get the deals we’ve got lined up for incoming players signed off.

Berge, Fofana, Ugarte, Zubimendi - aren’t these all quite different in terms of midfield roles they fulfil and how they play? Doesn’t really make much sense in how we’d line up if one of these signed.

Zubimendi Would be the pick of that lot

I read Ugarte or Zubimendi as replacing Casemiro (despite their different styles), and Berge or Fofana as maybe replacing McT.

The transfer team won’t be looking at these four players for the same squad role.

Zubimendi and some kind of mad man ball winner (with some ability on the ball too) would be fckin lovely.

We’d need to shift both McT and Casemiro for that though and even flogging one is looking hard.

Surprised Eriksen is still here tbh I thought we’d sell him for very little, just to get another players salary gone.

Yeah, Eriksen is on roughly twice McT’s wages if reports are to be believed.

I know ETH likes him off the bench as a lock-picker, but firstly, is he really that good at the job anymore, and secondly, when he’s brought on for a DM because we need a goal, the substitution is always going to leave us more susceptible to counters.

McT being the homegrown player just makes him far more useful to sell, even if he probably offers more than Casemiro or Eriksen now days for the squad over the course of a season. We need to move all 3 on but it’s likely going to take more than 1 window so whichever deal materialises will be the one (or more) that goes.

Forfana sits amongst an impressive group of players. Interesting chart.

Defensive duels won: 65%
Progressive passes: 80%

I think we’re just making PSG sweat over Ugarte since they’ve shot their bolt early getting Joao Neves, and need to offload.

you have to factor in McTs goals that he scores and the points we win with these goals from the last season or so. Where would United have finished without these goals he scored last season?

True.

We need better first 11 players though to be less reliant on last resort goals from the bench throwing everything forward from the likes of McT.

We can’t buy those better players without selling squad players, and he is likely going to be one of those casualties due to fetching a better fee. He’s also not young and might want to leave if he gets chance for regular first team football.

His goals mask the fact that he’s an awful footballer.

United cant sell these players like McT AWB Maguire Antony Linderlof etc without as good as giving them away. So we will have them until their contracts run down. Of course we need better players but if we cant sell we cant buy. McT cost us nothing but his goals probably kept the manager in a job last season

Solanke to Spurs seems to be getting done, think that’s a good signing for them. Far more dangerous than Richarlison and should work well with Son.

Newcastle getting Guehi is good business too, him and Botman is a solid CB pairing.

I was surprised to see a few Spurs fans slightly underwhelmed by the prospect of getting Solanke.

He is 26 with one good year at top level football. I can understand their reservations personally.
